Rear disc brake question?

Hi guys,

Newbie here, with an easy question. I understand that the piston in the caliper on the rear brakes rotates to retract during a pad change. That pin on the pad is strange though. If the pin locks into the cut-out or slot...then it seems as though the piston can't rotate as it comes back out? Does it move out without rotating?

Thanks, Ross

not sure, but i belive the piston does NOT rotate during normal brake operation, only when a special tool is used to manually retract it for a pad change.

I know that AutoZone will loan that tool for you for free if you leave them a deposit.

I have a shop and never needed to borrow tools before but the other day I boke my P/S puller and they loaned me one until I went to Sears to get a replacement.

just buy it at harborfreight. they have a set for less than $20.00. dont be a cheapo and use a big channel lock to rotate it.

It comes straight out, rotates only to retract.
