Rear Carpet Holding Pins

Well... I'm not exactly sure how to properly remove these things so I'm just gonna ask this no matter how lame it sounds I am replacing my rear carpet and I still have all those little black holding pins that keep the rear carpet in place around the storage bins... my question is what is the proper way to remove those without breaking them or should they not be removed and the carpet installed while fighting with them trying to get it through the holes in the new carpet? Just feels like I'm doing something wrong here...

The plastic ones? They pop out. If you download the 87 FSM, there is a section that shows every type of clip used and in some cases, thier location and the best way to remove them. Most of the 1st and 2nd gen clips are the same/similiar. If you break them, check with your autobody paint supplier. They should have a rack with most of the different types of clips. Color matching will be a problem, but you can always paint them.
