RE-Speed Still A Option... Or Not?

Hey all.

Haven't been around these parts in awhile. Last time I was here I was reading about a lot of issues people were having with RE-Speed, Not getting parts/Waiting forever for them...etc.

I'd love to buy some coil overs and camber plates...like, right now... But I just wanted to check and see if RE-Speed was still a viable option or if I'd be better of making my own like a few threads have discussed.

I apologize if this has already been covered, But like I said I've not browsed the site in awhile.

If I were you I'd save myself the headache and go elsewhere. I emailed them multiple times, contacted their Facebook page and have called. I haven't gotten a single response back.

Apparently they're still an option in the same Manner as Studebaker or Hudson. Used come up for sale occasionally.

Not an option. I sent money for a simple fuse bracket 4 months ago and never received it. Apparently the website will still take your money and place an order but after that nothing happens. Lucky for me it wasn't allot of money. I can imagine others have had much more money stollen from them. This guy should be banned from PayPal. I filed a complaint but they said I had waited to long.

As much as I REALLY hate to see the current state of Re-speed, Alex is right.

RIP to what used to be the go-to place.

It was an option when Billy ran the company, once it was sold to Sam it fell apart.

Ugh. That's what I was afraid of, I was hoping that maybe he'd gotten his Sh!# together... So much for that. Glad to see that there's non DIY options at least (Techno Toy Tuning) But damn, Nearly 2 grand all said and done for front and rear and the camber kit. I guess that's not too outlandish for a set of good coil overs, But I was hoping for cheaper...

Guess I'll just have to be on the lookout for a used set of Re-Speeds around these parts... Which still wouldn't be ideal because my piston car is going to need stiffer springs up front and I'd imagine anything I find around here would be coming off a rotary car.

BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

The springs shouldn't be too hard to find, iirc Billy used commonly available parts for that (ones used for other coil over kits etc)

Keep in mind that the coilovers from T3 are preassembled, powder coated and shortened (according to the website, by how much exactly beats me) and use threaded sleeves that actually fit the tube instead of being an inch too wide and having tons of free play. I did the math and for a full front and rear set they are only a little more than $200 over the RE-Speed gear which also requires you to hack up your existing struts, and either weld the perches to them or pay someone to do it, which then requires you repaint them or watch them rust through. Not that I mind all the DIY, in fact I've done it, but when there's a well built set up out there from a company that still maintains a good reputation, that's where I put my money. If they were available before I bought the RE-Speed setup I would have gone that route, if only to save time.

Hmm, the T3 coilover setup looks pretty nice, and it is reasonably priced, provided the shocks and springs are well matched and properly dampen-rebound adjustable for good handling and aren't just pretty-but-useless "tuner" coilovers. Wish I could figure out the damn vibration, so I could proceed with building up the car.

Anyone have any idea why T3 chose AGX shocks for the rear setup and not illuminas?

Ive seen Eibach Ground Controls on 1st gens. Might be an option. Even when Billy was in charge it took me a month to get my coil over kit for my 79. Not a terrible wait for an in house product, but compared to going on ebay and clicking buy it now and getting it in 5 days it is.

There are some good threads by a couple guys using Porsche 944 Bilsteins.

We installed them on our Chumpcar RX7 and they work beautifully. It requires you to be bit creative because the shaft is larger so your stock strut tops wouldnt work and aftermarket pillow bearings are somewhat harder to source. As well you need to obtain sleeves and springs from other places (like ebay).

Excellent results for an equivalent price but definitely more effort.

I PM'ed Sam a while back and asked if he wanted to sell Respeed but got no response. I guess that means no. I'm retireing soon and this would have been a good part time job, but oh well.

I didn't realize they were out of production. I've had mine on my car since 2004. If anyone's still looking there's one for sale on amazon..

Amazon.com: Tokico BE2317 Illum Shock Rx7 Ft 80-85: Automotive Amazon.com: Tokico BE2317 Illum Shock Rx7 Ft 80-85: Automotive

They have have more on the way, so it says.

I wonder if the strut tube diameter is close enough to swap the perch to the tokicos. Never liked the AGXs too much because the rebound isn't adjustable.

Unless something's changed in the past couple of weeks, Illuminas are backordered everywhere and have been for months. I'm pretty sure they're out of business as my warranty card was returned by the PO stating their postal account had been canceled. :p

I have MR2 rear Tokicos w/GC front coilover sleeves and camber kit in the front and AE86 Bilsteins w/old Pro7 Eibachs in the back. If Techno Toy had their kit ready when I was ready to go, I'd probably have sprung for it...more fab involved in my setup than I would have liked. My setup is good though...I wouldn't be surprised if it was a little better than the T3 setup. What I really want are double-adjustable Konis...*sigh*.

Sad to see where re-speed went..

I wish technotoytunings coilovers for the FB in the rear would've worked for my setup. I have big brakes from a FC and the coilovers would not fit without rubbing against some bolts and no adjustment on height. Bummed me out. I'm sure they would work great for a stock car though.
