Re Mags

Hi Everyone,
I've just purchased a 1981 Series 2 RX7 and was wanting to know, what is the max size mag wheel can you install on it?
Thanks Dino

The go to size is 15x7 4x110mm 20mm offset with 195 tires. 205 will rub a little at the steering lock.

I have an '84 with rolled fenders (no flares), and I'm running 205/50-15 on 15x7 in front and 245/40 on 15x8 in the rear with no issues under aggressive street driving.

I ran 225/50-15 on 15x7 wheels. The fenders where not rolled. The front was on camber plates with 3-4 negative degrees and coilovers.

Are you looking for max wheel height or width? There isn’t a lot of room inside the fender of these cars, especially on the front, so knowing what someone else is running for rim width or tire width is useless without knowing what offset the rims are.. having gslse suspension/brakes will make a difference too..

I have gslse parts with 16x7, 25mm offset rims with 205/45 tires, and -2.5 degrees of camber on the front. Slightly rolled fenders, no rubbing. I plan on getting 16x8 rims with 10-20 offset, might have to roll the fenders a little more.

All the old school mag wheels were -10 offset 15x7. I run a 205/50/15 tire no rub or rolled fendrs. The tires don't stick out passed the fender. All u can buy new are Rotas 4x110. But only in a -20 offset. Forgot about panasports in 4x110 think you can get them in any offset you want.

I approach this the other way around. The tire and rim size tell you what envelope will fit inside the wheel well without interference. Once you know this, the correct offset can be calculated. Then you find wheels with the correct size and offset.

If you are wanting your car looking period correct then you shouldn't be focusing on maximum size. IMO best size rim for these cars is 14". Most people run 15" due to accessibility, but I wouldn't advise you go bigger than that.

Below I linked some resources on rims and vintage Japanese car scene.

Showa Savanna: The Tokyo Brapper - Speedhunters

Cool & Collectable: The Wheels Of JCCS - Speedhunters

Another good resource to experiment with different combination of tire size/rims/offset

Thank you very much for the info! I'm finding it hard to get the right information. I want to keep the car looking relatively stock (tasteful)but want some more showy rims.
Its a bit of a mine field regarding size/off set and because I live in New Zealand it will have to be shipped over, in other words once purchased, if wrong I have a set of very unusual rims (110x4 stud pattern).
Thanks bro!

Hi ya,
Just saw this post. so 15x7 -10 offset front and rear? so -20 would rub? I live in New Zealand so access to things is not easy and if I purchase there is no way to return too.
Cheers Dino

It really depends on the width of tire you want to run.
