RB Muffler for my 84 GSL - Which one?
I'd like to get a racing beat muffler for my GSL to cut down on the noise, it's got a really tinny sound right now with the Marcor SS muffler, and I'd like to get an RB one. A friend of mine told me that the first gen RB mufflers don't actually cut down on the noise as well as a T2 muffler, and don't sound very good. Is that at all right? Does the first gen muffler cut down on noise and make a good tone as well as the T2 one?

Well i know that there are two RB premaflow mufflers..79-80 and 81-85.. then i think that a GSL-SE RB muffler is a higher flowing of all three.
I have taken various RB premaflow mufflers from 79-85 and noticed that some had a larger orfice or exaust hole size at the tip. The larger one sounds and breaths nice on BP engines.

The only differentiation between the RB mufflers for FB's is in the inlet pipe length and the number of bends that it has in it - there isn't a separate RB muffler for SE's, btw.
In fact, I took my 80LS RB PP muffler and had my rear tailpipe on my 84SE modified to fit the 80 muffler design. This was done to save some money from buying a new muffler just to swap it to my newer car.
In it's design, the stainless packed RB PP mufflers definitely help to reduce the 'tinny' sound of a rotary engine. Combined with the presilencer that they sell, the exhaust note is changed from the quiet stock muffler to one that really breathes better and has a much nicer 'character' than stock. I love the way my SE sounds between 3k and 4k rpm when you're accelerating hard, it sounds great. HTH,
