Multi-piece wheels allow to you replace parts if they become damaged and provide an easy way to change wheel width and offset. This also assumes that you're a well funded car racing team with plenty of wheel inventory on hand.

Modular wheels also tend to be lighter than a solid cast alloy wheel. Also, they generally require less weight to balance them.

A disadvantage of 3-pc wheels is that the tree pieces must be properly sealed or they will leak air.

As far as 2-piece wheels, they have some of the advantages of 3-piece wheels, without the risk of leaking. The GSL-SE wheels are 2-piece (welded instead of bolted). This is assuming the two pieces are the spider and the rim. There are some 2-piece wheels that are constructed differently, but you can probably figure out the relative benefits.

I believe the -SE wheels and non-SE wheels are cast aluminum, not two pieces. Thats the way it looks to me anyway.

Look again.

'SE wheels are 2-piece. If you look at the back side you can see the weld bead that holds the spider to the rim. The spider appears to be cast aluminum, while the rim looks like it's spun.

Non-'SE wheels are one piece cast aluminum.

Most widebody kits will require a 3piece wheel.

Ok, I didn't know the SE wheels were two piece. But then again, I haven't looked at SE wheels real closely. I just know I worked with my "+" style rims for a loooong time and looked at them a lot. Always inspecting that I get all the old paint off in the sandblasting process. I know they are 1 peice cast aluminum.

spun rims on se wheels?????? 3 piece wheels are are not prone to leak. I have found several places to get replacement shells(rim halfs) on out of manufactured 3 piece wheels rangeing from 100 to 300 dollars for a 15 inch part. I have a couple of shells on order right now for my epsilons. seanrot pm me if you need info on someplaces. I was going to send a link to hre's site but the site address seams to be for sale?? they had a lot of good info on the advantages of multi piece wheels. maybe bern will read this and have some input.
