RB Holley set up on a street ported 6port 13B?

Some of you may remember me freting about this dicision on various other posts over the last few months but today I finaly ordered a Rb holley kit for a stock port 13B(they dont make one for a street port) The problem is I have a street ported 13B that I just got from Atkins Rotary. The dude at RB says my car will have "inferior performance" and that Atkins should not be porting 6ports. But Atkins says " it should be fine"
I had to order something to get my car back on the road because my old F.I. system is trashed

Is anybody successfully running a similar setup?

Now that I'm completely broke I at least want a fast car to show for it!!

sorry about the long post, Alex

honestly I think you would be fine. Because there isn't much "porting" your can really do to a 6-port over stock. ANd I have the setup on my stock 6-port and it runs rather rich, so I am sure that you can adapt it and tune it to your specs. I always am leaning mine out, I think I finally got it, so I think you would be ok.

Thanks, I hope this things fast!
I probably should have got a 4 port 13B (if it wasn't for that dam core deposit)

What sort of power do you think a 6 port is capable of with this kind of setup ie. holley carb, street port, e-fan, exhaust ect.

I'm looking to seriously smoke my freinds '84 GS with a fresh 12A, RB header, and lots of rust.

Hell yeah, thats good to news. I hear a lot of people trashin' 6 ports on here.
This dude's rust busket is prety quick though, I think it's faster than the '87 SE I had back in the day.

What are your mod's?

6 ports get trashed because there is more **** to them and not as simple and straight forward as a 4 port is. Plus obviously you can open the 4 ports bigger than the 6 ports, but I wouldnt say it is a huge difference. What size Holley is it?

You should be fine with the 600. After you get it all together and running, let me know what jet sizes and how it is currently running. Just to start out have your idle mix screws 2 1/4 turns out. While you check your jets look at the middle of the primary metering block, their will either be the power valve which will protrude out towards you with a spring on it or it will be plugged which will go in slightly instead of out. Let me know if you have the power valve in and what jet sizes you have all around, primaries and secondaries. If the power valve is plugged you need richer jets than if you have the power valve installed. This is a RB prepped carb? yes? Iam not sure the mods RB does.

Yes, this is a Rb preped carb but I don'd know what all they do to them either.
How will I know what size jets I have? (I'm not very handy with carbourators and have zero experiance with Holleys)
I'll get that info on here as soon as I recieve this thing and get it bolted on.
I've got a lot left to learn on this project.

Thanks for all the support,
Alex

Well I am sure that you will want to get a bigger pump. I got the carter 5-7 Psi pump and fuel pressure regulator.. with that set up you have to T off the fuel feed line and make a return or the pump will get hot and fail while you are idiling, because the pump, pumps fuel to keep it cool. So at idle the carb isn't using as much fuel so it get hot..

It is not difficult at all. I knew nothing about Holleys a year ago! Just take off the fuel bowl and you will see 2 brass colored jets, unscrew one out and read the number on it.

Get a Holley tuning book, it will tell you all about how they work. It should speed the process up of figureing it out.

Yea, you deffinetly need the fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator. For the Holley you need a constant 6psi, I dont have a fuel return line with my Holley blue fuel pump and have not experienced any problems. yet?

I just ordered a Holley blue from summit yesterday,
thats what the dude at racing beat recomended.
Will I need to pick up any special fittings to install it in place of the F.I pump?

This is probably going to sound prety retarted to you guys but bare with me. Would said fuel return line run from the carb back to the tank or back to the pump?

Thanks again,
Alex

I wasn't planing on using a return line, but when 813KR$ said he hadn't had any problems "yet" , It got me thinking.
I gotta get this thing running, my freind with the 84 GS just announced he's getting an old Dellorto setup for his 12A.......I can't wait to blow his miss matched doors off

Oh, and I'm gonna go buy a book on Holleys,
Alex

Did you get a regulator also? If not you cant run that pump with out one, way to much flow, you will flood out your engine. is this a 2nd gen car or a gsl-se? If not you wouldnt have a FI pump. Well. I have run this set up for a year with out a problem.

The car I'm atempting to revive is an '84 GSL-SE
Soo, a constant 6 psi and I'm in good shape with no return line?
Thanks

Any way, I'll get back with you guys next week as soon as my parts arive and I start having problems (they did call me Mr. BadWrench last time I worked in a shop)

You can get a good cheap liquid filled pressure gauge from summit and have it about the next day. I have one, its very accurate. I think you are covering just about everything. Maybe get some spare carb parts like the float gasket kit and stuff like that, just in case one of those goes out on you sometime. Always nice to have around, in times of need.
