Question ? for RB exhaust owner

I am planning on getting the whole RB exhaust system for my 85 gslse. I have two questions for those of you that had made this conversion.
1. What do you do with the stock O2 sensor? If you get rid of it, will it affect in anyway the car operates?

2. Does the RB streetport exhaust system have provision for the air supply tube that is connected via the check valve from the air pump?

thanks in advance

Jeff

You need to keep the O2 sensor if your running EFI. Youll need a bung welded into the header. It does however come with the 5&6th port actuator tube.

you mean drill into the new RB header and creat an insert so the O2 sensor can be inserted into it?? Sorry, I am rather confused! What happens if I don't use the O2 sensor? Yes, My se is EFI.

Yes, a muffler shop can do it for you. But Id call Mazdatrix and ask if they have one setup for the O2.

You need the O2 sensor. Its what tells the computer how to adjust the A/F ratio.

mazdatrix already puts the bung in for you in the GSL-SE setup (which is actually an RB header)

Well i made sure that they knew it was going on a GSL-SE fuel injected 13b 6 port model, and he said "yup this will just bolt on and go!!""

it DID have the 6th port actuator tube, but no o2 sensor bung.

And to answer your other question, no, you dont need the air pump after installing this exhaust setup. Get a dual belt alt pulley, air pump blockoff plate, and take off the pump altogether.

Thanks to everyone who replied my post. I call RB today and ask if their streetport exhaust system for the 85 gslse comes with the bung for the O2 sensor. They said it doesn't. They also told me just to tie up the O2 sensor and will not affect the function of the car. To make this matter more confusing, I call Mazdatrix and they say I will need the O2 sensor for the car's computer to function properly(adjusting the air fuel mixture). Yes, Mazdatrix does sell an exhaust system similar to that by RB. The only difference is there is a bung for the O2 sensor in the header from Mazdatrix. The cost difference is about $50.00(mazdatrix is more expensive). It is not the cost difference that concerns me, but rather about doing it right. Any futher inputs from anyone???? I am confused!!!!

you need the O2 sensor... otherwise your car will not run right, the O2 sensor is used to adjust the air/fuel mixture on the fly.

MazdaTrix just re-sells the RB system. They DO NOT make their own. Just order it from them, they seem to be more reliable anyway. If youre EFI, you NEED the 02 sensor. Your car WILL NOT work without it.

The "Street Port" (dual pipe) RB exhaust system from Racing Beat DOES NOT come with an O2 bung.

The "High Performance" (single pipe) RB exahust system from Racing Beat DOES come with an O2 bung.

Simple as pie....now Mazdatrix might weld a bung (sounds painful) onto the "Street Port" header...that sounds like what's going on here.

Right on.

Where is the O2 sensor bung on the streetable exhaust? I'm assuming that it's near the connecting pipe to the cat or presilencer? Which brings me to another question, If you had the SP exhaust, would you still need to only use one O2 sensor (welding your own bung) or would you have to have two because they are uncollected until they reach the muffler?

One computer, one sensor. It would have to be in either of the pipes.

I have the streetport GSL-SE Racing Beat exhaust. It came with the O2 sensor bung but it wasn't welded on. I had to get it welded on myself. The sensor is physically there but I broke the O2 sensor wire accidentally several months ago and it has been running perfectly fine ever since. I have seen absolutely no difference in performance with or without it. I ran without one on my 2nd gen for a while too with the same results. It might make a difference in gas milege on the freeway while cruising but thats it.

I need to sell my exhaust. I've got a new setup and am going turbo. Its only been on the car for less than 2000 miles. The first $300 + shipping takes it.

Actually, M-Trix Re-sells the RB system with some modifications they do in house.

I believe the O2 sensor only works at low throttle settings as measured by the TPS. Once you go beyond that range (or go without an O2 sensor) the computer starts using the fuel maps based on the output of the AFM.
