Rattling noise

Ok I cannot figure out what it is, but this is what happens. There is no noise when the car is in neutral, when it is put into first or second gear at an idle there is a rattling noise. I checked the engine didnt see anything. If there is a rattling noise in other gears i cannot hear it.

Any ideas? My best guess is I broke a synchonizer. But all the gears still work fine. This noise is driving me crazy though.

Could be your throwout bearing. Any grinding or rumbling sounds come with it? Any difference if the clutch is in or out?

no grinding, only does it with the clutch pushed in, and drops off once you start going.

Sounds like when you drop a nut in an engine bay and its bouncing off of stuff, only it continues to go and doesnt hit the ground.

Yeah, sounds to me like its your throwout bearing (if your lucky). Might be able to run it forever like that, but you might want to consider a new clutch and bearing in the near future just to be safe. Clutch is probably not the issue, but as long as you're going to be right there anyway........

Ok an update, the car is officially dead. Will not go into gear with the engine running.
