Exclamation Rats nest removed, but broke the purge valve.

hey all
i just did the rats nest removal (thanks RX7carl, tutorial was great). but i busted the two little line connections off the bottom of the purge valve. i searched and replaced the purge valve with a pcv valve. i ran a line from the oil fller neck to the clean side of the airbox, and i spliced the pcv valve into it. then i capped the venting line that used to run out of the carb to the rats nest. is that cap going to be a problem, and should i run a line and spice into the other line that has the pcv valve, and if so do i splice in before or after the pcv?

next, i don't have A/C so do i need to have the white solenoid?, also where do i hook up the vacuum line from the cruise control? currently i have the white solenoid hooked up. the top line going to the idle sensor on the air box, and the bottom line go to a T fitting, which has one end going to the base of the carb and other attached to the cruise vacuum line.

i took it for a test drive and everything appears to working, didn't look like there was any lung mustard on the inside of the oil filler, so hopefully everything is hooked up the way it is supposed to be.

thanks for the help in advance
steve

back from the parts store, had everybody at advance auto completely stumped. I could have swore they had a complete section with nothing but pcv valves and similar stuff, but i guess not. They couldn't even come up with anything similar from another vehicle. Can anyone tell us where to get one of these quickly other than a junkyard. I removed my smog pump, rats nest and made my own block off plates today, and the only thing stopping me from testing the car is this little cheap piece of plastic. Thanks in advance

I have to admit that I'm a little stumped here. I can't seem to recall what a purge valve is. I removed my nest over a year ago, so I'm a little rusty on some of the details. If you can clarify for me the definition of a purge valve, I will try to help you out.

I could also (if needed) take some pics of my vacuum lines to help troubleshoot. I did not use a pcv valve, just ran a line from the oil neck to a nipple on the carb spacer (if I recall correctly).

sorry for the huge pic, but thats it in the middle, top line goes to the 4th opening from the left on the carb spacer, bottom smaller line goes to the 3rd opening from the left, and the bigger line goes to the oil filler neck and carb vent.
i'm going to call the dealer now to see if they can get it, is there anything from another vehicle or something universal that can replace this valve with no ill effects???

Lucky for you guys, I got my PCV system hooked up and running perfectly, so I'm more than willing to share. Hell, if I had the afternoon off work, I'd even throw in pics!

Okay, follow carefully, this is a three-line procedure, and you need about 3ft of 5/16" fuel/emissions/vacuum hose to do it:

Line #1
- Oil Filler Neck goes to non-threaded side of PCV Valve

- Threaded Side of PCV Valve goes to the vacuum source on the intake manifold under where the shutter valve used to be.

I didn't even realize this vacuum source was there until I read some posts on how to do this. It's on the manifold just above the #2 rotor housing

Line #2
There's a connection on the intermediate housing I believe, which juts out towards rotor housing 2. This is just above/ahead of the one on the oil filler neck and would normally have your charcoal canister plugged into it (via a metal tube that follows along the firewall).

- That connection needs a line going to a fresh air source. With the rat's nest removed, that's really easy. There's one on the stock airbox, just above and to the left of the carb vent.

Line #3
Now your charcoal canister isn't hooked to anything.

- Remove the old line that went from the metal tube on the firewall to the intermediate housing. Replace this line with a new one that goes to the carb vent.

And you're done! easy as 1, 2, 3.

Note: be sure to secure the PCV line with clamps at either end. A vacuum leak here would suck. The other two aren't a problem for that, but I clamped the one at the intermediate housing anyway, just to make sure it tidn't pop off.

The clamp on the manifold side is easier to do with the carb off and no shutter valve, but you *can* manage it otherwise. Since I have a BananaCarb, this was the easiest way for me.

There should be a section with PCV valves at your local part store. I know here in Canada, you can go to Canadian Tire and they have a section devoted to it.

If you need to give them a vehicle make/model so that they can look it up in the computer tell them you have a '90 Dodge Caravan with the 3L V6. This is the purge valve you're looking for (or anything similar).

Basically you need one that sits in-line, with the vacuum source on one side and the "crankcase" on the other. The threaded end will go towards the manifold vacuum source, the other end will connect to the oil filler neck.

It should be a metal hexagonal-cylinder about three inches long. ANY part store should be able to hook you up for five bucks or less.

I know this is old but i have a problem with this.....

The 5/16 hose is too big for the nipple behind (under) the shutter valve....

Is this right?
