Rats Nest removal

Hey guys, I am removing the rats nest on my '85 GSL with no A/C. I am having some dificulties, for I cannot seem to figure out what lines conect to the oil vent hose (5/16"). I am als wondering, where the hose that is connected to the engine block, right neer the oil fill tube goes? This is also 5/16" hose.

Thanks For your help, Ted.

Sarcasm aside, you need to give people time to respond. You posted at 8am and expect an answer by 1pm? Most people are at work during those hours. Sometimes you have to wait for a bit for someone to respond. I would have before, but your post is a little vague. I'm trying to picture exactly what you're talking about. Pictures always help. Are you trying to figure out which lines to block or keep open? What did you silicone shut? I left my vent on the oil filler tube open. I'll add a filter at some point but ,meh.

Ic ic. I actualy made another post yesterday at like 10am, and I got 30 views and no help. I figured out about the oil vent, but if you go lower down there is another hose connected to the engine black right at the oil filler tube. It originaly plugs into the fire wall. The write up says to remove it, and run a hose from it "t" it off and do some other things. I just left it pluged into the fire wall, and I pluged everything elce.

I sued silicone on the spare rubber tubing i had to make vacume caps. Cheap yet effective. The down side is I have to wait a long time for it to dry.

I will try and get some pics up, and if I try and start her I will inform you guys of wht happend. Hopfuly I will not need the fire extinguisher.

So I started her up. She runs like an angel. She is quieter, smoother, and faster. I swear the but dyno is reading a 15 hp gain then what there was before. All I need to do is time, and tune, and I can probably squeez another 5hp out. When all said is done she will work like factory new.

You probably didnt get any help because nobody really knew what you were talking about specifically. As stated before you were really vague, granted I understand its hard to explain some situations. But then you should try to provide more information, I also did as you said and left that plugged in. Or at least I think we are talking about the same thing. But you should really consider leaving your crankcase vent open, I also need to find a filter for mine, but it is hard to find filters that will fit in that area.

Oh, and as much as we would all like the butt dyno to be accurate, it usually isnt

I read your other thread and had absolutely no clue which hose you were talking about, fuel line is 5/16" also. If you want help, be more specific, if you don't know how to word the question, post a pic.

Whiney bumps about getting no love tends to put people off.

I guess you've never read the rules (see post #2 specifically)
https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/rules-1st-gen-section-89820/

but that aside, I'm guessing you never visited the Archive or searched either.

Here's the ninth thread that came up on a search for "rats nest" in the 1st gen section, which happens to have a picture of what I *think* you're talking about.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ight=rats+nest

here's also a thread on how to do it a little differently with a PCV valve

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...t=lung+mustard

now remember back to that first thing I said... the thing about "some people only log in once or twice per day". It's 25.5 hours since your initial post, and here's some useful info since this is the first time I see the thread.

Also, don't start another thread on the same topic. It makes it harder for people to find useful information when they search in the future and bumps threads off the main page that deserve to be there as much as your threads.

So what have we learned here today?
1. Read the rules and check the FAQ. They're both stickied at the top of the 1st gen section

2. Search. Sometimes if you don't know what to search for, you can add that in your post. Some of the answers aren't always found by the most obvious searches, but people can help you with that IF you've tried on your own first.

3. Be as specific as possible. If people don't know what you're talking about, they won't know how to help you. Luckily "oil vent hose" meant something to me, but I'm still not sure if I answered your question right (I'm hoping I did).

4. Though it's not always possible, pics often help a great deal. They'll get people's attention, and give them an idea of exactly what you're talking about. Taking them into MSPaint to add lables like "What's this thingy?" helps too.

I did that stuff. I broke my purge valve and fixed it. I was not sure if there was a difference between teh venting with and without the purge valve. As for the second link you suggested, I have no idea why but I did not notice the picture. I got it mostly right.

Thanks for the sugestions.
