Rat nest removal questions

I'm attempting to do a Rat's Nest removal. I have the write up by Rx7Carl and pratch. I should also mention that I've done an engine swap as well. I went from an '85 12A to an unknown '79-'82 12A. The clutch and flywheel are the latter.

Since the engine was out until yesterday, all of the elctrical connections, radiator, etc are out as well. I also need to figure out how the oil radiator works (in and out line, where they connect, and how to mount it).

I've also removed the A/C and plan on leaving it out altogether along with the condensor.

Now for the questions on the Rat's Nest.
1. I'm at the point where the Anti-After Burn Valve is removed. They go on to talk about where it is plugged in. The picture (#8) is blurry and they are talking about a 5/32" vacuum line plug. If I'm not mistaken, I have two hoses on mine. A small diameter one and a larger diamater. See the attached picture; am I supposed to plug both lines, I'm assuming its coming out .

2. Now to the point of connecting the crankcase venting. Picture #18 says to reconnect the top hose to the 4th opening from the left on the carb. Put the lower small hose in the 3rd one from teh left. I guess this is from the "big purge valve"? Would that be gismo #1 or gismo #2 in the picture? I'm guessing #2.

I have two different gismos; the '85 version only has two hoses. There is something broken on it as well. The '82 version (just saying '82 but it came off the '79-'82 motor) has 3 hoses and something broken.

I'm sure I will have more questions as I go but I think I'm going to call it a day. I want to complete each step before moving on to the next. I also want to check with the "local" boys that hang out at Fudd Ruckers in Columbia. Maybe they will have a clue.

here is your anwser to #2 That Little plastic piece is broke aint nothing you can do. I broke mine to.

Here is what you need to do:

Yeah that purge valve is important. I think if you dont have you could build up the dreaded lung mustard! But not to fear as you have helped us out with your how to's we shall help you out. I broke that stupid plastic thing too.
Here is what you need to do:

Lucky for you guys, I got my PCV system hooked up and running perfectly, so I'm more than willing to share. Hell, if I had the afternoon off work, I'd even throw in pics!

Okay, follow carefully, this is a three-line procedure, and you need about 3ft of 5/16" fuel/emissions/vacuum hose to do it:

Line #1
- Oil Filler Neck goes to non-threaded side of PCV Valve

- Threaded Side of PCV Valve goes to the vacuum source on the intake manifold under where the shutter valve used to be.

I didn't even realize this vacuum source was there until I read some posts on how to do this. It's on the manifold just above the #2 rotor housing

Line #2
There's a connection on the intermediate housing I believe, which juts out towards rotor housing 2. This is just above/ahead of the one on the oil filler neck and would normally have your charcoal canister plugged into it (via a metal tube that follows along the firewall).

- That connection needs a line going to a fresh air source. With the rat's nest removed, that's really easy. There's one on the stock airbox, just above and to the left of the carb vent.

Line #3
Now your charcoal canister isn't hooked to anything.

- Remove the old line that went from the metal tube on the firewall to the intermediate housing. Replace this line with a new one that goes to the carb vent.

And you're done! easy as 1, 2, 3.

Jon

For the PCV just get one that fits in the to hose at both ends. Thats what I did and it works great!!!

If you need to give them a vehicle make/model so that they can look it up in the computer tell them you have a '90 Dodge Caravan with the 3L V6. This is the purge valve you're looking for (or anything similar).

Basically you need one that sits in-line, with the vacuum source on one side and the "crankcase" on the other. The threaded end will go towards the manifold vacuum source, the other end will connect to the oil filler neck.

It should be a metal hexagonal-cylinder about three inches long. ANY part store should be able to hook you up for five bucks or less.

To answer number one yes you are going to plug both those lines that piece is coming out, so plug them up.

Hope this helps

I certainly hope it does. I'm sitting at work right now. I'll have to print this out, grab the FSM and look everything over.

I didn't know I had a PCV since I don't have a C
