Radio and cassette buttons turning green

Anyone have any experience with this? The ***** and buttons on the '85 factory sound system are kind of mottled with a greenish color. I have tried different chemicals, compounds, etc, but no change. Used ones I have seen online also show the same flaw. Has anyone found a way to fix this? Paint maybe? Thanks.
