Radiator sensor - what is it?!?
I'm replacing the leaking factory radiator on my 1980 with an aftermarket model from Rotary Performance. I got the radiator in the mail on Friday and it looks great, all except for one thing.
My factory radiator has what looks to be a temp sensor in the upper left corner, facing the driver. The aftermarket radiator doesn't have a bung for this sensor. What the heck is it? I've searched all over the forums, but no description seems to match exactly what I'm looking for. If I can identify what this sensor is, and what it does, I can move forward with replacement. Thanks!

Awesome, thanks. If I get rid of the sensor, what should info with the leads? Short them or leave them open? Also, aside than the hot start mechanism (which doesn't matter to me), will not having this sensor cause my car to run poorly? You said it affects the emissions system...

My Cal-spec '80 doesn't have that sensor; the leads for it are still part of the harness, though, and came from the factory with a shorting connector between them.
Since my car doesn't have this sensor, I've never investigated it in depth. It connects directly to the ECU, with a branch for the hot start assist.
Quickest way to find out of it makes an operational difference, I'd say, would be to just disconnect and short the leads, and see if you notice a difference in operation.
