radiator oil cooler mount question for turbo fb

Ok, I found an intercooler that I may want to use for my project but the only thing is, it looks like I may have to relocate my gsl-se oil cooler to make it fit (you know how the gslse's have the oil cooler mounted up ahead of the radiator. I was thinking about getting a shorter radiator and putting the oil cooler under it like it is in some first gens. My question is, can I buy a nice aftermarket short style radiator that will cool a turbo first gen nicely and mount the oil cooler under it? Anyone running this setup?

Or use a stock 79-82 3 core (short and thick) Radiator.

Is the smaller 3-row better then the bigger 2-row that came in the 83-85. I need a new rad soon so what should i do. Im thinking to get a oil cooler from a 82,front mount and getting rid of the one under the oil filter. Is that more efficient???
I have a 83.

Go Griffen. The scirocco style double pass rad works really well. I ran all day on the track (streets of willow springs) on a hot (90-100F) day with no cooling problems at all. I saw it peak at 200F a couple times then come back down right away every time. This was on a 12a streetport driven very hard with a clutch fan, a 180 stat, and no shroud.

Now with the 13b, I have the computer turn the e-fan on at 88C (190F) which it hits if I idle for a while, then It quickly comes back down until to 84C (183F) where the fan shuts down. Gonna take it to the track next month, but I expect the same performance.

I had a fabricator friend modify the radiator for a stock like fit including the oil cooler mounts.

The consensus around here is that it is a VERY good idea to get rid of the beehive cooler and that the smaller 3 row cools just as well or better than the larger 2 row (especially if it's in bad shape). Do some searches, as it's been covered many times.

Thanks for the speedy reply's guys, I will probably end up using the griffen. I have heard good things about them in the past. I'm just trying to get all the bugs worked out before I begin my engine install. Looks like the griffen already comes with ears on the bottom to aid in mounting an oil cooler too!

Thanks man. I had the FD for about 7 years and, to be honest, I don't miss it at all....it's been a year and counting since I sold it too. 1st Gens Rule!

You could mount it GSL-SE style if your not going turbo or you can go under the rad.

If anyone is interested, I can talk to my fabricator friend to see if he wants to make some more direct fit conversions....they probably won't be cheap, but the quality will be second to none.

I may be interested depending on the price. Let us know how much it will be.

What is the duct tape for on top of the radiator? Is it to seal the space between the radiator and that top cover?
