Question Racing Beats powerpulse 12a muffler + 12a boosted

I wanted to hear from anyone that has a Powerpulse and a turbo'd 12a together. I know this isn't ideal setup. I am debating using mine with it for noise reasons, and running N/a lately hasn't been fun.

I have all the parts to switch to boost again. My weber alone with headers is not fun enough. Power is too low and torque and acceration with the s4 blowthrough setup is much more drivable with a big gain in midrange power.

And, I have run boost through a stock muffler before, and I presume a powerpulse would probably sound much nicer then that did, although restrictive too. I am aware power is probably going to be down somewhat. I have 2-1/2" piping from the turbo back now, but the crappy rice cannon on it now, is exactly that-crappy and ricey.

My main question is I suppose, how much different will the power be compared to a stock 12a muffler compared with a Powerpulse?

I would imagine you could get away with a much better flowing muffler than an RB when the quieting factor of the turbo is brought into the equasion......

I should point out, I was running n/a rather then turbo due to high fuel costs, but the fuel savings haven't been significant, so I deemed it time to re-turbo.

I did have a muffler in the exhuast before other then a RB, but it exploded because it was not designed for rotary turbo'd or even n/a rotary. I know the turbo muffles some, but with the glasspak + the rice cannon I have, its too annoying to drive in downtown Minnepolis.

Do you have the streetport muffler? I seem to recall someone on here was doing this same thing with the rb sp muffler.

There is a streetport powerpulse muffler? Huh? What is the difference between that and regular? ALso, how would that differ when that powerpulse is meant for 12a 83-85 and GSL-SE 13b.

iirc, The piping diameter is larger on the sp vs. streetable setup.

I think Jimmy54 did something like this.

Here is the RB streetport muffler on my 84...

The 81-82 muffler is a little louder and has a 2.5" inlet. Its setup for the factory dual midpipes, but you can easily cut it off and run a single 2.5" pipe into the muffler. It can be used on any year 1st gen with any engine provided you make the neccesary changes to the inlet pipe connection.
Its NOT restrictive.Too many people think that quiet means restrictive and its not always true. The RB is a straight through design, just like the highly favored, but much louder Dynomax mufflers. The reason the RB is quiet is because its BIG and has a lot of quality packing material around the inner pipes. And its rock solid so it doesnt buzz or resonate. The only caveat is weight.
Ive been running 14psi of boost out of my TO4B into a streetported S5 13BT and passing through my 3" mandrel bent exhaust, into the streetport RB muffler. Its never had any problems boosting up or holding boost, or anything. The noise is nice and deep, but still blares a bit on the topend. It passes the CA noise emmisions regulation by 1 decible(95db @ 4000RPM)
I cut the inlet off completely and welded on a 3" inlet flange to match my system and also chopped off the stock tips and welded some nice raw stainless pieces.
And also, dont count on the turbo keeping your exhaust noise down like it does on piston engines.A turbo rotary is still VERY loud, even with a catylist(which I have). The S5 turbos are especially loud and raspy since the exhaust runners are seperate all the way into the turbine. It has the same affect as headers on an N/A engine.
Trust me on all this,Ive been daily driving this same car for 5 years.......

Thanks for clearing that up, I knew this had been done before I just couldn't remember who.

Interesting. Too bad I will not buy another high priced powerpulse muffler. Looks like it works good though. Thanks for thee info.
