Racing beat header question

I just put my header and presilencer on today, started it up with just those on without the power pulse muffler and she was loud. Anyways, I was wondering if you are supposed to run a tube from the heat shield up into the air cleaner still or just take that flap in the air cleaner right off. Actually what happened was i took the flap off, and then realized i might need it. Is it necessary to have on????

Sask get pretty cold. id leave it. I modifed the heat shield so just the little nipple part was attached to one bolt of the headers, and then used a hose clamp to clamp the other end on the header.

So long as there is a small gap for air to get in, its fine. Best to have it closest to the headers so it will draw the hottest air. I needed to get a new hose from canadian tire, but it was only 5$. i can get you the part number and pictures later if you want.
