Racing Beat Gasket. Which Way Around.

Racing beat exhaust. One side of the gasket has a larger diameter polished ring around the exhaust port than the other, and the hole next to the stud hole is finished differently on each side. Must be a reason it’s made this way. Which way around would you install it?

it doesn't matter.
That hole is for stock exhaust manifolds and housings that have this port:

So looking at the largest hole, the actual exhaust hole, one side of the gasket has a wide shiny flange, the other narrow. I have a vague memory of reading sometime in the dim and distant past that one side needed to be towards the engine, but can’t remember which.

whoops, reading comprehension failure.

My gut tells me the shiny side needs to seal against the exhaust insert on the rotor housing:

Maybe I'm missing something, but to my completely uneducated eye, it looks like the gasket and mani both have a top and bottom (rounded pointy vs squared off), and the side with the extra hole goes toward the exhaust exit as it does on the stock mani, which has the port.
So pointy side up and port back.

Yup, pointy v square dictates which way up the gasket goes. However the gasket has TWO extra holes in symmetrical positions so either face could point outwards. See pic below. To me the defining difference is one face has large polished flanges and the other face skinny polished flange…. And which one faces towards engine. At some point someone decided the flanges should be different, and I don’t want to find out why the hard way!

J-Tso wins! Tech phone help at RB says it doesn’t really matter, but given the choice… larger polished flange towards motor.

Permatex Muffler Exhaust Sealer if you are in a hurry

Indian Head Shellac Compound if you have 24 hrs. I think Indian Head solves everything.

Wet n' Dry sandpaper wrapped around a flat board for honing the exhaust flange flat.

(and eat those broken sentences my 1st remedial english college teacher)

If you have a forum feature called "Infinite Scroll" turned on it can cause all kinds of confusion by blending different threads together.
