Which Racing Beat Exhaust for GSL-SE?

It is time to uprgrade the exhaust system on the mound. Austin does not do emissions testing so I don't have to worry about that for now. I am going to get Racing Beat system, but which one to get. The system with the header which collects to one pipe, or the Street Port system with two presilencers to the muffler. The latter is only $40 more.

Which one is better? Seems like the second one for sure, but it only costs $40 more?

My engine is not ported, no plans for that until it dies.

Also, the Racing Beat catalog claims the header for the GSL-SE has "no provision for an oxygen sensor." Seeing as how I would like to use the o2 sensor, do I need to get a bung put on, or will they do that for me at Racing Beat?

Finally, is it worth it?

Right on-

the only complaint that i have with my streetport exhaust system is that the presilencers hang kinda low. that hits more often that my muffler...

but it was defnatly worth the money.. huge difference in performance

go with the streeport setup

Mike, I've got the streetport RB setup on my GSL-SE, w/ the dual long presilencers, and the powerpulse muffler. However, in order to pass emissions here I have to pull the presilencers and run a custom cat hooked up to my air pump (which you wouldn't have to do).

I don't know if RB offers a header plumbed for a O2 sensor. I had mine added by the same shop that did my cat. (They just made a hole in the header and welded on a nut that fit the sensor).

The motor doesn't need to be streetported to perform and sound great with this setup. I would highly recommend it. good luck

Mike,
I don't know if it applies or not, but.......
I have the RB header/presilencer on my 80 12A with a Monza muffler (which everyone reports to be loud and low quality, but I have no issues with it)
The sound is loud but not too loud. I have never had a problem with Police here in Topeka.
But, a friend here in Topeka has a second gen (90) that he just installed the RB header with one presilencer and a Dynomax muffler (i think thats correct on the muffler) anyway it is WAY LOUD. As in too loud. He has had it on about 2 weeks and already has been pulled over and given a "fixit" ticket. It is way too loud for me, it sounds like an IT car. I wonder if it is caused by loosing the Y pipe and two mufflers, along with the cat which helps muffle the sound quite a bit.
My point is: I would be inclined to go with the two presilencer system just to be safe.
just my opinion,
hanman

As long as you use the PrimaFlow muffler, both RB systems produce about the same amount of noise (not much). The systems sound different from each other, but they are both very quiet.

If you do install an o2 sensor then it should be put in the collector so it can read how both rotors are burning. The only problem I see with the sp system is that the gases will be quite cool by the time they reach the collector just before the exhaust. I just installed an o2 sensor on my rb header and single presilencer, it wasn't tough at all. Although I know and have the facilities to TIG weld.

If you do end up getting the sp system then I would suggest getting two o2 sensors and a good wideband reader/comp that can give you individual readings for each rotor or an average of the two readings. These bungs should be put as close as possible to the header plate... within reason... so about 2-3 feet is as close as I was willing to risk. I have pics in my thread if you want to see what i'm talking about.

Good luck, check out a Jegs catalog. They have the dual sensor monitor that I just described.

If you're wondering, the sensor helps tune our carbs... or tune your efi. But for the efi it's really a case of set it and forget it. But it's really nice to have a running scan on the engines eating and breathing habits
