Because the size of a 4" muffler and how low my car is it was scraping everywhere. I was willing to lose the expansion chamber and possibily some power for peace of mind. As it turned out the chamber didn't make any more power. Though you could argue it was the header that made up for the lack of the expansion chamber.

Much quieter, but I went from just a resonator to an actual muffler.

UPDATE!!!
My magnaflow has already blown out in its new location. Sounds like a flowmaster. Its as hollow as a blondes head. It resonates at 2500, 4000, & 5500 RPM. I'm going to cut it open and stuff it with lava rock fiber... I'm pissed. My car sounds like ***.

Would you like me to just build you a nice one instead packed with Ceramic Fiber thats rated up to 2300*F? Might take a 2-3 weeks but I could do that.

Wow, that didn't take long. Another option is an RB universal presilencer. Should last pretty well, and they sound great.

After my flywheel fiasco, I will never give RB another penny unless I have absolutely no other option. Worst customer service ever. Finallly got home, 120 miles of canyon roads today and it gave up the ghost. Looks a lot like the brola DJ blew up. Don't know what I'm going to do now. LOL....

Which Magnaflow muffler is this? Do you have a part number?

All Magnaflows use a 16 gauge .063" wall thickness. Too thin for a rotary. 14 gauge is what RB uses in their 2" and 2.5" presilencers. Not sure what they use in their universal 3" presilencers but something tells me they may have gone with 16 gauge because they're suppsed to be for turbo applications, where 16 gauge is ok. My car is stupidly loud inside when you get on it. All RB and Magnaflow 3" stuff. I might wrap them.

I doubt ghey will warranty it. It did scrape on one or two speed bumps so I bet they'll blame the failure on that. I'm just going to copy dj55 and use the core and build a bullet proof muffler around it.

Hyper, if you want me to ship you out some of the ceramic fiber that I have let me know, I have quite a bit of excess of it.

Adrain, you'll find the core is wrapped in a coarse stainless steel wool. You might want to do what DJ did when he wrapped his core with some stainless pot scrubbers first. Then built it up with the SS wool.

I went that route during a recent rebuild of two RB 2" presilencers for my REPU, and got a new role of coarse SS wool from lustersheen-online.com (the product picture is exactly the same as DJ posted so I think I got the right stuff). I also ordered some 304/304T 4" tubing with a 14 gauge wall from Amazon. You'll want to use at least 14 gauge as well.

Oh and the 3" .120" wall tubing was found at speedymetals.com. If you're redoing stuff, you might give it a looksee.

Man if I knew then what I know now, I would have built my two midpipe mufflers/presilencers like DJ. I bet my interior would be a lot more pleasant. I still might after I get the pressure plate sorted. Gotta test the two rebuilds in the REPU first...

Definitely go the DJ route. I've been in his car and it is miles above and beyond better than before he blew the Borla.

I really hope my RB exhaust doesn't sap as much power as it seems to have from you and HadaGSL-SE. It probably will, which means a new exhaust is the next thing to get done this year. Is that ISC header still available or did you buy it used?

When I ordered mine Mike said he had one left. It was polished and it was more than mine. I didn't get it because why pay more for polished when I was getting it ceramic coated. Which, BTW, was the best decision ever.

Do you guys have a thread somewhere that explains how you are building these muffler/presilencers that DJ is using?

BTW, you can get the Kao Wool or ceramic fiber blankets from any good
ceramics supply place that has ceramic kiln supplies.

Its usually good to ~2300 F.

As much as I hate to, I'm going to go with the RB presilencer. I called them and they said its 2.5mm 300 stainless steel, and if I can manage to blow a hole in it I better bring it right back to them.

http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset....rtNumber=16434
Since I'm within driving distance now I think I will bring it right back if I do blow a hole in it. And I won't be happy. LOL!
