Sorry to bother you again. what is the quietest exhaust system for a 1979 rx7, I DO NOT Want the stock system or want to pay 1200$ for the RB one. Check my insta out for a video on how loud my car is at idle. It's actually quieter when I coast than at idle. . This is how it sounds at idle.. I checked the exhaust for leaks, found none. Check the video out.

Or just go to my Instagram, my 5th to last post, or online, middle second row.
I would search for a used RB system. You can usually pick them up for around $500. I personally think they are the quietest and sound the best. Although there has been some debate about how the newer systems sound. The older one on my 1980 LS sounds amazing and is very quiet compared to a custom built exhaust. Its very tolerable for my wife when she's in the car and she does not like loud cars.
You guys in the US of A complain about the pricing on Racing Beat stuff but have no idea someone like me in Canada has to pay basically 1.3 times the price plus like $300 USD for shipping HAHA
That's why i had to resort to making my own. Always an option for you as well to get a shop to just make you something up?
when I had an "84 gsl years ago a muffler shop made a system with a flowmaster muffler ( i think) connected to the stock manifold.no cat or anything else. it was cheap but it was also TOO quiet for my taste.

That's what I essentially did. All of the exhaust up until the muffler was in fantastic condition. I went ahead and replaced all of the gaskets from front to back, then just had a 6 inch round Magnaflow welded up to the factory piping. It sounds good now, more of a Rotary sound than OEM and a little louder, but not too loud. I love it. Everyone that's heard it so far thinks its a happy medium.
actually thinking back they might have kept the oem cat. it might have had 2 cats originally, I think they may have tossed one of them. it was a long time ago, but the shop is still there, so I may go back there, because my '79 still has the original exhaust system on it.
The lower rumble sounds like any 1st gen but the tapping noise sounds like an exhaust leak.
Man, I'v been hunting that sound down, that's what bothers me, not the rumble. I tightened the bolts down as instructed and it got worst. I'm going to take it to a muffler shop and see if they can find it. Glad that's not the default sound.
Also. Some here ordered a cat from rx7. com that eliminated the two cats and acted as a resonator of sorts I might just order that part and a Flowmaster muffler as noted above.
High idle and super exhaust leak. Metal or graphite header gaskets?
He had his SA Thermal Reactor replaced with an FB iron manifold. I'm trying to think of what port or tube could be open.... maybe the air tube off the Cat?

If you do order from rx7.com and MaxWedge noted you changed out your header, make sure to talk with Ari at rx7.com. He is excellent at helping you to choose the right thing. I had a couple of conversations with him and he spent a solid half hour talking about all things rotary with me. Good guy, good products.

Theres a rectangular hole the reactor covered that becomes uncovered in the center above and between the intake and exhaust. Some people fill it or the RB header covers it for you. I think. It was used to push air into the exhaust by the reactor I think. All this from memory.

Hmm. any pics? That may actually be the sound that's driving me bonkers .
Here's a pic of the flanges of the SA's Thermal Reactor and the FB's log manifold. It looks like there might be 2 round holes down by the lower bolt holes, but I'm not sure..... never saw one in person and the pic isn't great.
I had a similar problem when I removed the air pump.. I had the metallic tapping noise and just couldn't find any leaks in the exhaust.. I found one of the block-off plates I installed wasn't seating properly (I think it was the ACV plate). Took it off and re-installed and the noise was gone. Finally.
I dont think the SA's have that port, and on FB's it's covered by the intake. But that's where the exhaust was coming from when I didn't have my ACV block-off plate tightened properly. If he still has his original SA motor he doesn't have that.
