quick question of engine swaping

hey guys. i got a 79 and a friend of mine with a wrecking yard is closing down. he said i can take what i can and want, so i've notice a fb 13b (from a gsl-se) whole engine and all.. drive belts still attach, intake piping to stock air box still on.thus the flywheel.. so its really all still there.. he'd mention to me before that motors he has all ran but just pulled out cause of the very low milage on them..

long question short.. anyone down a 13b into a SA if so or not can i get any info on it..?

thanks

13B will fit fine into a series 1 RX7. it is a very popular swap over here in Australia. i have a series 2 with a 13BT straight out of a series 5. its a fairly simple swap as long as you can find a front cut to change the wiring over. a couple of things to be wary of, however, are that the gen 1 7's have different diffs and rear suspension to the second gens so you will need to get a custom tailshaft made up. also, the standard diff won't last a really long time with the amount of power it is easy to reach with a 13B. i make about 190kw at the wheels (about 250hp) and the stock diff would last about 20.33652 seconds

If I'm not mistaken it should drop in fine if it came from the GSL-SE. You may want to do a search on the topic to get more results and a definitive answer on this. If it was a later 13B you might have to look at other mods to make it fit, such as getting a gsle-se oil pan & front cover. Of course the engine you are discussing should have these items if it truly came from a gsl-se. I believe your stock tranny for the 12A should bolt right up, sly (above) is talking about a 13B from a much later model RX-7, the gsl-se is still a first gen. The 13B from this model (in stock configuration) is fuel injected though, so you would need the proper wiring harness and ECU to make it work with your current setup...unless you went to a different intake with a carb. Good luck with it!

This was just recently covered again. I'm not giving any slack to someone that has been a member for over 3 years. Please start using the search function. :-)
