Quick Question about removing/installing driveshaft
I just did a auto to manual swap in my car and well...to tell you the truth, i dont know how to get the bloody driveshaft on. Do i have to remove the mounts and slide the engine and transmission forward and then onto the driveshaft and onto the rear differential? Is there anything special i should know about this procedure? I was just wondering because thats the way i had to get it off since it wouldnt slide forward or back due to it being rust welded to the rear diff input shaft.
Take the rear bolts out, pry the shaft forward until it drops free from the pinion flange, then pull out of the tranny. Either put a pail under the tailshaft or drain the tranny first. Install is in reverse order. Fwiw, auto and manual shafts are different legths.
yeah i knew that thanks. Ive got a replacement. And they are only different when the auto has overdrive? Anways, i got one from a manual car. Ive got the driveshaft out, just wondering on how to put the new one in. So basically i can bolt the trany in before the driveshaft, thats basically all i needed to know.
So how do you fill the manual trans up? 80-90 right?

Odd. I never have transmission fluid drip out when I remove my driveshaft. ...ack. Even when I just got it home from the local dealer, and they had just put a new throw-out bearing, pilot bearing and new clutch in; and I changed over to a new Mazdatrix aftermarket shaft. Isn't it a sealed system?
no it isnt a sealed system, the end of the driveshaft is supposed to seal the system. So when you take it out, it should spill everwhere. It did when i took mine out because i forgot to drain the oil in the first place. So wheres the oil filler on these manual tranys?

When filling the tranny, the full level is when it begins to run out of the fill hole, which sits higher than the driveshaft. With the car sitting on level ground, if the fluid does not run out, it's a good 1/2 qt low.
^uh oh, i had my car on ramps when i changed my tranny fluid. i filled the fluid to the hole and it took more than 2 qts. does that mean i overfilled it? what can that do to a transmission?
Full fill is less than 2 qts. I doubt the extra will do any damage, other than add a little, miniscule, drag on the tranny gears. If the tranny has the breather vent at the top, you may get some leakage. I have found a few overfilled trannys and they had no issues.
Tell you the truth, i was just driving around one day and i hit a water puddle after bringing the car to 7 grand on a straight stretch and the car went "click click click" during idle. Well i thought it was just the inspection plate so i never payed attention to it until the next day it was more like "clunk clunk clunk" so i had a look under neath and the inspection plate was missing, so when i hit that water puddle i guess the cold water came up and hit the "flexplate" causing it to crack, then to shatter after a couple hours of driving it like that. Now it lay in about 8 pieces on my garage floor.
