Quick question about coils and stuff

I'm re-wiring my '85 GS, and i forgot which connections to the coils were positive and which were negative, anybody know?

Also, can you run the car with no battery if you just push start it? The starter and battery are being ********, so I was thinking why not just rip the bastard off of there along with the battery and just push start the thing from now on, lol, save a good 50lbs and gain it even more ghettorific points. She'd probobly weigh less than 1500lbs then, hahaha

btw, 1500lb cars are cake to push start, haha... I can actually push my car up my driveway alone, with no help, so long as I have the hood and rear hatch off. With my other car 2 people have a hard time pushing it up a driveway.

A car with a functional alternator will run witout a battery.

A battery acts as a current/voltage spung for the voltage iregulatarities that a alternator inherenetly makes. Snowmobie and other devices that don't utilize a battery are regulated differently then a automotive electrial system.

No battery on a running engine will ruin or damage electrial systems on a car if it will even run without the battery, it could work with a small cycle battery, I don't know if it would be strong enough to start it.

You're taking this weight reduction thing WAAY too far. Come on man what are you gonna do if by chance you stall going up a hill? Huh? You gonna push it up the hill with a whole line of traffic behind you? No having a starter creates a hole near your flywheel for **** to jam in there. Not having a battery is just as stupid. If it's just a track/screw around off the road car then by all means do what you want.

Oh yeah the negative wire for the coils is the one that you don't have to screw on, the flat blade one. The positive is the one that is round and has to be tightened to the coil with the nut that is on the coil. Don't mix them up, lol.

A hill? This is michigan, we dont have hills here, lol, I swear this state is flatter than Kansas. I'm considering raiding the pull starter off the snowblower and figuring out a way to jerry rig it on there, lol. The starter hole can be covered by an aluminum block off plate I can fabricate. The car is a screw around car

Which electrical systems could be damaged? All I have is fuel pump, electric fan, coils, and lights right now... might restore a couple gauges, like tach, speedo, fuel gauge, temp, and oil pressure. Would any of these be damaged by the lack of a battery?

Also, would a small NiCd battery off an RC car suffice? (not for starting obviously, just for regulating current)

I'm deciding the best wiring layout for them, to minimize clutter in my engine bay.
