Quick qquestion as I cant figure it out
I was just using stumble upon, and it brought me to a how - to on putting second gen ignition in a first gen(How ironic) and I started thinking. When you use second gen ignition, you're only using half the distributor. Which means you're only using one ignitor, correct? in my mind that makes sense......and that would stop my pinging issue!
Second gen ignition? Maybe you mean second gen coil? That would make more
sense.
Using the second gen coil doesn't have to mean that your only using one
ignitor, leading and trailing are separate systems. If you use the 2G coil for the
leading you can still use the stock trailing ignition as it is. Also, when using a
2G coil, it fires twice for each combustion event and its called a wasted spark
ignition because of this. It helps burn the mixture more and if used with the
trailing you end up with 3 sparks per combustion event.
There are many ways to implement an alternative ignition for the 1st gens.
Just search on DFIS for the many threads about it.
