quick - part will not come off
quick - part will not come off
It looks as if the igniters have gone out n my car. I am trying to swap them out from another car. I have unscrewed the four-point trigger mechanism that screws on to the distributor shaft, but the four-point piece will not come off. It will lift about a 1/4" and even rotate, but it will not come off from either of my cars.
How do I get this off so I can change the igniters?

Huh? The ignitors are mounted on the outside of the distributor for 81-85 models and on the fender for 80 models. The devices inside the dizzy on the bearing plate are the magnetic pickups.
It's also highly unlikely that both your ignitors would **** themselves at the same time. If you're not getting any spark whatsoever I'd maybe check out the fusible link first off.

Your talking about the reluctor. Why would you remove that? I only remove them for a dizzy overhaul. Carfully push it back into place, it has to line up with the mag pickup coils. What you need to remove is the igniters right? They are the little square black boxes on the outside of the dizzy. grab the plug, squeeze it a little to unlock it and pull it off. Then remove the 2 phillips screws on each one and they'll come right off.
Ok, so on an 85 how do you get the igniters off of the dizzy? I have pulled two screws and the wires to the pickups do not want to come off. So, I thought that I had to pull the whole plate.
Two screws are off, what is next?
(I have a Haynes Manueal and it does not say a thing).

Thank you very much for your help!
This ended up being a very quick fix. My car is now sitting outside running and warming up. Now I will get to go autocross tomorrow.
Thanks again for your help!

I had to remove the reluctor to replace the ignitor on my Honda. (Hitachi Dizzy) It sucks, rebulding a distributor in a Wal*Mart parking lot. That bitch also cost me near $200.
