Quick gauge question (anyone put gauges in the 84-85 center console?)
Okay, when a gauge is measured at 52 mm, does it mean that's the diameter of the bezel or of the gauge housing part?
I want to put three gauges in my center console piece where the heater controls go, but I don't want to have to machine back the holes a whole lot. Anyone ever done this and to what success?
TIA

The factory holes have a little lip that makes them about 50mm.
Put it on a vice, and dremel them down a little, it'll look great when done.
(I recommend Autometer Ultra-Lights)

I like that a lot. Looks clean. What I'm doing is ditching the heater controls (no heater ) and putting the gauges there. In the gaping hole below, I'm putting smoked aluminum (finished that this morning), slightly reinforced of course. I'll have seven (yeah, count 'em ) illuminated rockers in there in a row and probably my stereo below. The area right under the vents is also going to have the aluminum. Haven't decided on the ashtray area yet, but I have a few ideas

How are you going to defrost the windows on it without heater controls.
Even if it is a track car, there are those days, with lots of humidity that'll fog up windows quick. You planning on putting the controls somewhere else?

Directfreak - That interior is sweet (whose car?). I like the fuses right below the switches. What I ended up doing is ripping out a second fuse box and mounting it on the tranny tunnel for all my "extra" features.
Well, I'm not running a heater at all so no I won't be relocating them. Also, this isn't a track car, it's a car that will be really fun to drive on the street and then take to autocross on the weekends. Since I'll be at college for 2/3 of the year, I'll only be driving it in summer.
Believe me, I've heard enough **** from my friends on the no heater subject and also regarding defrost. For the heat, I have blankets. For the defrost, I always use no-fog on my windows (applied at every washing ~once a week) and I'll probably end up with a small 12V fan under my dash to blow through the driver side vent. Worst comes to worst, I use some paper towels to wipe the window off. If it still gets worse, I install the heater core/blower assembly. Frankly, I'm not too worried about it.

I want my whole dash to be a gauge cluster.
I hate these new cars with idiot lights, speedometer, and fuel gauge.
Gimmie INFO! If something is wrong, I wanna know what's wrong, that way I can assess how to fix it and how long I can go before fixing it.
So, On the A pillar, I'm thinking of putting three guages.
Oil Pressure, Oil Temperature, Water temperature.
I need to know those constantly. If one gets bad, I wanna know about it IMMEDIATELY so I can refrain from toasting my engine. These gauges, in this location will be in my face and easy to look at.
In the area below the stereo, or where the stock ashtray is, I'm thinking of two or three more.
EGT, A/F and Fuel Pressure. Perhaps one of these will go where the stock clock is since my stereo has a clock on it.
These are for tuning purposes. I do want to know if I'm leaning out a bit, but it isn't as important as overheating my engine or dropping oil pressure.
Any other suggestions?
