Questions: AutoX, short shifter and exhaust.

Okay. So I am going to autocross my 84 GSL-SE. I need to get some cheap rims and get some respectable tires mounted on them. What are the cheapest rims I could get that could stand up to maybe some drifting and autocross, I don't care what they look like.

Short Shifter-What can I use besides the Mazdatrix that is bolt in? I can't do anything when it comes to fabricating, whatsoever.

Exhaust- Racing beat- I'm going with this. Is there any difference between the streetport and the non-streetport one? Do i need a streetport to use it? I have never known and feel idiotic for asking.

I HAVE HEARD THE FALKIN AZENIS ARE GREAT FOR AUTOX. AS FAR AS THE SHIFTER MAZDATRIX OR THE MK1 YOU CAN FIND ON E-BAY WITCH IS A TRUE SHORT THROW SHIFTER, I HAVE HEARD IT IS PRETTY GOOD. As far as exaust if you do to much you will be put in a higher autox class with the steet mods, but the racing beat is problably the best as far as power gains. If you are on a budget you can get a pacesetter header for not to much $$$.

Just ones I can bolt on in place of my stock ones. A quick and easy change.

The SE has an easy to find bolt pattern. You need to determine if the class you intend to run allows for wheels that are different diameter, width, or offset from stock. SCCA stock class rules do allow for any of these factors to differ from stock wheels other than 1/4" max offset change.
You also need to determine if the class you intend to has any tire restrictions. SCCA has a few "Street Tire" classes that require a 140 treadwear rating minimum. Those classes, the Falken Azena's are among the top rated tires.
If you are running any other class, that allows for "Competion" tires, the Kumho V710 is always highly regarded.
As for the exhaust, you also need to determine if that would be legal in the class you want to run. SCCA rules will bump you to Street Prepared automaticly with a header.
Short shifters haven't really impressed me much, as the FB has a fairly nice feel to the stock shifter. Also need to determine if they are legal in the desired class.
Where I run, they follow SCCA rules pretty strictly, so I run in C Street Prepared, as that is the minimum legal class for my car due to the RB header.

rock 14x7 wheels with a 4x114.3 with a +20ish offset. try junkyard wheels from a 240z, ae86, etc etc

If you install the RB exhaust (which does away with the airpump) you will be bumped up to CSP. At that point, any wheels and tires can be used, as well as lowering springs and several other items.

If you want to stay in the stock class, you won't be able to install the header that comes with the exhaust system...

you can also do kosei k1's like that guy with the red RX-7 did.
cheap, strong, 13lb wheels.
always got the slipstreams too but then you will look like a honda lol

or you can keep it old school and rock mesh enkeis, etc. like the guy said who posted before me

I can't wait for my insurance check to come. It paid for the seven and then some (half of my check) and then an 'injury compensation' check is in the mail. Heck yeah.
The car now has some fairly good tires, Toyo Proxies. Don't know jack about them, but know Toyo is pretty good. I'm leaning towards the exhaust, with a suspension package behind that. All RB, so I can't go wrong.

The toyo's are pretty darn good. Exhaust and suspension mods will bump you to Street Prepared, assuming your local area adheres to SCCA rules. This class will basicly allow you to run any tire you can fit on the car. It also allows about any bolt-on mods under the hood.
The hardest item to correct, is the loose nut behind the steering wheel. Seat time is the way to solve that problem. (Still working on that myself)

Not just any Toyo Proxes tire. Example: FZ4 or TPT cannot compare with the T1R let alone the RA-1. They are worlds apart in performance.
