Questions about gsl-se motor?????

i have a bridgeported gsl-se motor in my datsun pick up truck. it has racing beat intake with holley carb, rb main and water pump pulleys, rb spark plug wires, rb big tube headers into a 3" collector/exhaust and an ACT clutch with aluminum flywheel connected to a turbo II transmission.

now with my questions:

1: my distributor still has the vacuum advances on it (not hooked up), are there any upgrade distributors out there that dont have the vacuum advances on them?

2: what are the plugged wires leading from the side of the distributor to the coils called and can i buy a new set? where? how much?

3: there are four studs come from the drivers side of the motor, towards the front and on the SIDE of the motor. can i remove these with causing any fluid leaks?

4: on the oil fill tube there are 2 ports, what do i do with them? breather, plugs, etc...

5: are there any aluminum radiators for the 1st generation rx7? ive seen plenty for the second and third gen sevens, but havent found any for the first.

6: are there any high flow water pumps available or aluminum high flow water pumps?

7: where do i fill the transmission up with gear lube in a turbo II tranny? i had to install the motor and transmission into the datsun at the same time and ALOT of the gear fluid came pouring out the back.

8: what can i do to make my setup better? (i wont do an msd set up, as i think it isnt worth the investment and turbo is a bit out of my financial grasp at the moment.)

any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

1. you can use the stock distributor and just not hook up the vacuum advance pods. They are really there to help with part throttle driving and to increase fuel efficiency. Once you "floor" the gas pedal, the vacuum advance part goes away.

2. When you say plugged wires coming from side of distributor, I am assuming you are talking about the ignitors. Without furthur description, i can't really tell you what they are. Yes, if they are ignitors, you can buy new ones. Usually they either work or they don't. Is your ignition working OK?

3. Those four studs are to hold the air conditioner bracket. Why do you need to remove them? I believe they are blind holes and will not cause any leaks.

4. Well if you are not running factory style emissions, you can put breathers on them or do whjat i have done on my autocross car....run pieces of 3/8" hose down towards the ground and leave them open ended. DO NOT plug them off.

5. There was a thread going around on the 1st gen about a guy who purchased an aluminum one from China and it turned out good. Seach about that thread.

6. Not really sure on high flow, but some people use the aluminum housings off of a 2nd gen RX...

7. There should be a "bung" plug on the side of the tranny. Pull it first to make sure it comes out...then drain the oil... should be a bung on the bottom that looks the same. Fill back up tranny with synthetic gear lube till the oil just starts to come out top bung....your tranny will be happy you did!!!

8. Not really sure what your goals are with your truck. I would spend time making sure the engine is in perfect tune. A proper tuned carb and free flowing exhaust makes a world of difference. I added a MSD to my autocross car and did not really see any difference....some people swear by them...

Hope this helps some!

1. yes, but not really an upgrade. vacuum advance is better especially on the street

2. ??

3. yep, take em out

4. stock one goes to the charcoal cannister, and one goes to the air cleaner. up to you where they go now, catch can or air cleaner is fine.

5. brass works bettter! plenty of aluminum ones out there though, just not very common when the stocker works fine

6. the FC pump is the only option that fits

7. plug on the left side of the trans, there are two, you want the one in the front

8. spend some time tuning it, you have all the pieces...

thanks guys, you answered my questions quite well.

as far as tune goes it pretty much set up very well. instant throttle response at all rpm with no hick ups, so im good in that department. i figured im pretty much set as far the performance goes but was still curious if i could make it better then it already is.

1: the vacuum advance, if i chose to hook them up (since im likely to be driving around locally on rare occasions) would i have to simply hook them up to any vacuum source on carb? for the sake of cleanliness could i just "t" them together and run on single line to the carb?

2: yes i was talking about the ignitor cables/wires. thanks, it was driving me crazy.

3: studs are coming out tomorrow, thanks

4: oil ports, ill probably put a filter or catch can. i dont like the idea of having them open so something can get into the motor.

5: the aluminum radiator is basically for aesthetics. like j9 said, there i nothing wrong with my old one it just looks beat up while everything else in there looks newer. thought it be a nice little upgrade but whatever, its on the back burner for now.

6: water pump, ill do some research on this, thanks for the heads up

7: trans gear lube, how many quarts do i need to fill it completely?

8: guess its time to start buying bits and piece for a turbo set up.

thanks for all the help i appreciate it. ill post pics up as soon as i get a camera as the wife broke my last one...
