Questions About Front Strut Assembly
I'm working on rebuilding the front end from the GSL-SE parts car...in particular replacing the strut cartridges. When I took the strut assemby off, I did not find an adjusting plate (item # 40 on pages 64/65 in the BlackDragonAuto catalog). Is this typical? I don't remember seeing one on either of the original strut assemblies or the ones from the parts car.
Also, after I sandblasted the strut housing (from the GSL-SE parts car) I saw that it says "KYB" on it. Were they KYB's from the factory, or is this an aftermarket assembly?
One more thing...in the mounting block (item # 39 on pages 64/65 in the BlackDragonAuto catalog) there is a bearing. On the bottom side it looks like a sealed bearing...but on the top side, down inside the mounting block, it looks like the top seal is missing. Is it supposed to be that way? I can take a picture tomorrow if this is unclear.

Kyb was probably contracted to do the strut housings back then. Kind of ironic though since they do not offer a replacement strut for the Se.
On the mounting block that is the way they are. Top is open.

All of that makes sens to me except the fact that you haven't seen the adjusting plate. I've always thought that was the way camber and caster adjustments were made. I thought that the top of the mounting block was flat and the adjustments were made by the insertion of the adjusting plate. Is that wrong?

The strut mounting block is offset, which allows for two settings each of camber/caster. The flatness (or not) of the block doesn't factor in. Hope that helps.

the strut top bearings arent sealed on top. they do like a little bit of oil.
