Question on turboing a carbed 1s gen..

I asked my bro if we can do this set up and he said it would be a bish. I know squat about rx-7's, and I wanna make this a budget car. I'm gonna be running an air research to4 turbine, and i think they swapped out the compressor, not sure what kind. I'm gonna be running low boost because I dont wanna pay for tuning(hence y its a budget car) And its gonna be on a stock 13b w/ stock ecu if I dont go carbed. So since its gonna be on a stock motor and ecu whats the highest psi I can go without blowing the motor. Thnx in advance.

I'd go as far as about 8psi on stockport motor. Running low boost like that really eliminates the need for an intercooler. Best thing I can tell you is to learn as much as you possibly can about the rotary and RX-7's before tackling this project. Oh and give up your dreams of a budget RX-7, it's physically impossible LOL

1st, welcome to the forum, you have entered the 'Dark Side', as of now.

Your turbo question runs neck and neck in frequency to 'Where can I find a body kit for my car', for newbs 1st post.

Please read the stickys at the top of the 1st gen page. They will introduce you to our cars and provide you with the basics. Blow through turbos have been done, there is agood bit of info one them. Finding the needed info can be tedious at times through the search function.

Tuning is crital on a boosted rotary. Detonation from a bad tune can quickly kill an rotary, ulnike a piston engines which have a higher tolerance to it.

Robert, from Rotaryshack, (680rwhp is his user name) probably knows more about blow through setups than anyone else here and can boost prep your carb and recommend the supporting mods needed.

Cheap is not a good word when it comes to turboing a rotary, it can often cost a motor. A blow though setup is one of the least expensive routes however.

Family price or not a rotary, especially an FB RX-7, will sink it's apex seals into your pockets. You say it will truely be a budget car then I really have to call question to the quality of work and parts

lol budget. I had a budget once. Sadly enough I passed it the first month I got the car. And I'm a college student, doesn't get any cheaper than that.

Good luck.
