Question for those running a turbo 13B

My question to those running a turbo 13B in a first gen:

1) Are you using a GSL-SE 13B 6 port, a TII 4 port, or a 13B N/A with turbo?

2) If you are using a 6 port, do you have the aux port actuators installed, or did you remove them and wire the ports open so they never close?

I asked if anyone tried using 6 port front and rear end plates on a TII engine and half say its impossible, so say its possible but that a given volume of a/f mixture moving through 1 port will go faster than the same given volume traveling through a larger area. They say that a slower traveling a/f mix means you will accelerate slower. I counter that with positive manifold pressure. I plan to use a Camden SC and I figure forced induction will do just that, force all that stuff into the engine relatively quickly. Then some say they did it, or know someone who did it and they don't have a problem. I want to hear from anyone who uses a 6 port. How does it run, and how do your ports work?

It seems to me the extra ports would complicate a forced induction application.. But thats just me, Im no engineer

I can't think of any benefit from the extra ports on a turbo either.

How? I'm in search of a valid reason why, or else I may waste time, seals, and gaskets trying to do it myself.

I'll take a shot... The 5th and 6th ports are designed to help the breathing of an N/A engine. If a turbo is forcing the air/fuel mixture into the combustion chamber under pressure, then the extra ports would provide no benefit.

I'm using a TII 4 port.

Is there some reason why you want to use a 6 port?

If so many people have used 4 ports with so much success, why not go down that route?

You can build a Turbo engine around a 6 port engine. Most people usually just remove the sleeves for simplicity. It then acts like a small streetport. I;ve personally seen about a dozen of them.

You could leave the sleeves and actuators in, and have the actuators work off of boost pressure, and a 3PSI relief valve, so you don't blow the actuator diaphragm.(3PSI Limit)

If you do it this way, the engine will be extremely peppy, and have SERIOUS low end torque, with a small sacrifice at very high RPM HP.

Worth it in my opinion.

i thought I would try the road less traveled. I have a TII that I'm rebuilding and a 87 N/A that I took apart and was going to use until I got the TII. Then I thought about what the 6 ports are for. They open up to deliver more fuel at higher RPMs. Well, with a super charger, that is what I want, more fuel at higher RPMs. That is part of the reason why people port motors. It changes the timing of the rotor opening and closing the port to allow it to take in more fuel. So basically I would have a variable port to open If I had a 6 port instead of 4. The timing will stay the same, but with a second port opening, more fuel will be allowed into the rotor. I'm figuring that with a carb on the supercharger that I plan to use, I can get the ports to open at the same time as the 2nd 2 ports on the carb open up.

Your talking about 6 port engines, all of which are injected. The 5th and 6th ports are to allow more air into the engine, which the injectors will compensate for with more fuel.

I didn't realise your were going for a carbed setup, which I know very little about, sorry.

Traveling the road less trodden is a great idea though, and I wish you luck with your project. Keep us posted.

Yeah, it would be shitloads more complicated to run EFI with a supercharger.

I'm going to go for it. If it runs like a bag of hammers, then I will take off the port actuators and leave the aux ports closed. It may be a while before I can update anyone on how it runs cause I'm in the process of saving $$ for the supercharger.

I think i'm goign to go EFI haltech, 6th port sleeves removed, TII turbo/intake/exhaust mani, 3" straight pipes out the back, front mount intercooler.

Ala reccomendations from DF, and Rob Golden from Pineapple Racing.
