question for tech heads

hey guys!
a bought me a series 2 rx7 12A with a bridgeport about a week ago. anyway the car has been running great, but i found a small tube in the engine bay that was severed, so i fixed it. anyway after i fixed it, the car ran crap, and wouldnt idle without the choke on. so i took away the fix to the tube and left it severed, and it runs great again. i was wondering if anyone could give me any insight to this? iv got a pic of the engine bay and the tube, id like to know what it does and what passes through it?? thanks

as you can see, there is a severed tube in the pic... it runs down to the bottom of the car somewhere to the right, and the left end goes to the carby, under the air filter (u cant see it)

thanks guys any input would be greatly appreciated!

DONT DRIVE YOUR CAR.

That tube is a line from your oil metering pump.

It supplies oil to the inside of your motor for lubrication.

Buy some new ones and fix the problem.

I have never heard of their being any differences in performance with them hooked up or disconnected though, was it possible that you plugged it into the wrong spot?

That tube is one of the lines for your oil metering pump (OMP). The OMP feeds a small amount of oil into the carb so that the apex seals and associated springs get lubricated. The oil then gets burned. If your engine isn't getting the proper amount of oil (which I assume it wouldn't be if that line is severed), it can overheat, and the apex seals will get fried. This outcome, of course, is sub-optimal.

When you fixed the tube, did you let the car warm up with the choke on? The choke should release itself (if its working properly) when the engine temp reached a sufficient level. If the engine still runs like crap with the hose fixed, and the engine hot, then I don't know what to tell you. But if the engine idles fine without the choke after its hot (with the tube fixed), then that basically stardard operation for a 12A.

you can also do away witht the pump and premix 1oz per gallon

Do a search on "premix" if you want to do this.

just off the cuff could it be possible its getting too much oil or something? and consequently making the mixture off or something?

my question is, if it runs bad with it hooked up, where r u connecting it to? it doesn't go to a vac source. since there's only one tube, i assume ur running an aftermarket carb, stock carb has two tubes.

the oil comes from the pan, no extra resevoir(sp).
