Don't mean to stirr anything up if this has been discussed before, if so I must've missed it.

I've seen several products at the auto store for desludging an engine. I guess the procedure is to add this stuff before an oil change, run it for a minute or so, then drain the oil. Supposed to remove carbon sludge in the motor.

Has anyone tried this? I know it's formulated for a reciprocating engine but I would think this could help out a rotary, but I'd rather not just try it and find out.

ANyone know about the results, or possible results?

 

ive used a a quart of MMO and 4 quarts of cheap 50-w oil

(BTW this is in my truck)

I drained it, put a new cheap oil filter on filled it with above concoction, and ran if for a few minutes(till it was warmed up) drain.

put good oil, and filter in


the **** that came out was pretty bad

 

so dose that meen it worked? and you would sugest doing it?

 

I don't see how this could hurt anything... I just figured that this sort of procedure could help free some of the carbon around the oil seals. I know in all the engines I've opened up the seals are pretty carboned up and the springs don't have much spring left in em'. Maybe I'll try some stuff out and see what happens.

That is when I finaly get my damn car running!

 

Simple trick:
Add a quart of Marvels Mystery Oil to your crankcase about 500 miles before an oil change, since the engine burns oil anyways. It won't hurt.
edit: oh yeah and change your oil while it's HOT!

 

Yeah, the hotter the oil is, the better it flows, meaning the more crap that'll get washed out when you drain it, and the less oil that will be left in the oil pan after draining it. Basically, as hot as you can handle is best... just have a rag handy, and use it to hold on to the oil drain plug so you don't burn yourself, and get outta the way fast so the oil doesn't splash on you and burn you...
