A question about brakes

If I'm switching to a disc rear end from a drum rear end, is it possible to use the old master cylinder instead of switching to a rear disc one? I'm really tight on funds.

I put a GSL (disc) rear end on my 85 GS which had drum brakes. Using the stock MC and I have no issues. Good luck..
