Question about the 3L220 yoohoo belt

Hey everyone... The previous owner of my '83 removed all the emissions gear as we have virtually no emissions regulations here in New Zealand. As you would expect, I get the lovely belt slip and squeal above 4500rpm and it's driving me nuts.

I went to grab a 3L220 belt from the auto parts place down the road and they don't have that exact size. Everything here is metric and the 3L220 is 22 inches. That's about 558mm.. The closest they can get is 545mm (or about half an inch short).

What do you all think about using it anyway?? Is half an inch going to make it too tight?

Thanks guys! I don't think I'll risk it. Tomorrow I might ring around a few places and see what I can come up with.

Thanks for the link! If I can't find anything locally I'll be ordering one for sure. Being thousands of KMs away I could be waiting a couple of weeks for it to make it from the US to New Zealand so if I can find one here it'll be even better.

I was also thinking it might be a good option to go for the dual belt alternator pully. Is either better? The dual belts look pretty good but I don't really care about looks, I just want to get rid of the screaming cat under my bonnet!!

I doubt you would even be able to get that shorter belt over the pulleys - I used the 3L220 on my first FB and it was a tight fit (has to be since there is no way to tighten them). This belt should not be hard to find - goodyear makes 'em - remember it's a fractional HP belt, you may want to check the hardware dept rather than the auto section of any given store - this belt does the trick though - good luck

You wouldn't believe it... I have called the 3 major hardware chains here and none of them stock any v-belts. They all referred me to the same place that isn't open weekends.

I've got heaps of leads now so I should have better luck tomorrow when the shops are open.

One thing though... I take it you mean fractional HP as in they are used for low HP applications? How is it that they don't break when used on a car engine?
