Question 4 of 5 Rat's Nest

I think my previous thread contained too many pictures because I never got an answer for all of the questions about what to plug or leave open. So, I am posting the pictures in individual threads.

[/IMG] This is thread 4 of 5

Ok, does anyone know if this hose leading from the engine needs to be plugged?

Now thats a tough one I left mine open so the engine could breathe, thats the equilavent of a PCV valve, best thing to do it try and retain the stock charcoal canister, so that when the engine is running it pulls the crap outta the motor, I left mine open w/o any problems, but you will start to accuulate water in the top of the oil filler neck. This is due to the fact bottom of the motor is HOT and the top of the neck is cooler, and when hot and cold mix What happens? Remember chemistry class? Forms water droplets

That's the one I ran the air cleaner lid, find a small filter for the other one, or leave it open. No condensation problems for me anymore.

On 79-80 RX-7's that guy connects to the charcoal canister located inside the air cleaner lid. The hook up for it is right on top of the air filter canister.

I finally got it running this morning. Apparently, all of the rough running after the header install fouled the plugs pretty badly.

I installed my vacuum hoses so that I kept the a/c solenoid valve and the orange solenoid as well.

After deeply studying the manuals (I have both Chiltons and Haynes) and cross-checking with the maze of piping from the removed rat's nest I saw that ony the EGR valve is rendered totally useless by removing the air pump and ACV.

So, for the engine ventilation opening (4 of 5) I routed a hose from it to a tee that then connected hose to the top of the air cleaner lid (charcoal) and to the opening at the side of the air vent solenoid (2 of 5).

Now both fuel vapors and crankcase gases can be handled in the intended manner and no worries about condensation.

That hose is the one I recommend gets connected to a nipple on the filtered side of the air cleaner.
