pwr. steering pump removed on gsl-se

is this going to be a workout at low speed turns? i don't like power steering, and unfortunately the car im buying had it, but the pump is gone...im not going to have to replace the rack am I? or i guess the simpler option...put the pump back on?

i just replaced my ps pump recently and the 2 weeks i went without it the car felt unlike a normally manual 7...taking a turn you feel more resistance...so much so that you'll end up spinning out if you aren't careful...(like i did)

dunno what it is about manual 7's but removing the ps pump on my car didn't make it feel good

reoute back the hard lines fr. the steering pump to each other so your steering rack is lubed up all the time. it's always a good idea once you've taken out p/s

Mine never had p/s. It is a little more umhp to turn at parking lot speeds, much fun at running speed!
'Course, I grew up without power steering, so i don't mind not having it.!

if you remove the P/S, the streering will be hard at first. But, if you let the car roll, before turning the steering wheel, its not too bad. I removed the P/S in my car over 5 years ago with no problem. if you look in the steering box, you will notice a hard line and soft line. All you need to do is to put a jumper hose between the two. Wihtout looking at my car, I think I hack-saw the hard line appox 1" from the fitting (top of the box) and ran a hose from that point to the side (across from the oil pressure sender).

right on...i'll ask the guy if he has already routed those lines together....i don't like pwr. steering, but plan on putting a very small diameter steering wheel on the car as well, so that will only make it all that much harder to turn the wheel...looks like im in kind of a bind.

is there alot involved in changing the steering rack to manual? or should i just get a damn pump and live with the pwr.?

My power steering system was incomplete the day I bought the car from the previous owner, and replacing the missing parts would have cost more than it was worth. I've gotten used to it, but steering while parallel parking is a bitch and play in the system is more than that of standard steering systems for these cars. It takes the term "wonder steering" to a whole new level.

Best bet is to install a new std box--- the labor alone will take 4 hours so installing a used unit will only save about $200 over the cost of a new one. Not worth it IMHO.

But why spend $600 to $800 for this when you can have the CP Racing rack&pinion set-up for very little more? That would be my first choice.
