project underway!

So I've had all my parts sitting around waiting to be installed but being in MN it is WAY too cold now to be working on it, but a buddy and mine got bored and thought, "what the hell, might as well start the installations". So we spent about 6 hours outside in 30 degree weather and it did get colder as the sun went down. Damn that was cold, but we got a lot done. The full RB exhaust is on and looks much better than the rusted out stock exhaust. The only problem was the heat shields getting in the way.
Next we went on to the intake to put on the Weber 48 IDA. I learned that coolant runs through the stock intake...started to pull the stock off and coolant EVERYWHERE!! But we did get the intake on but I came across a small problem with the carb. When i went to put in new jets along with a new F-11 e-tube, the air jets just fall out along with the 1.80 main jets! I don't know if they are for a different carb, but i we could say was ****! So we stopped since i knew that the jets shouldn't be that loose in the e-tube. Is this normal??

SO all we have left is to put on the Carter fuel pump, FPR, and MSD 6a system. I do plan on waiting until it gets warmer though. It took forever to gain feeling in my hands! Well any help would be great since i do want the car to run in the beginning of april. I also hope to post some pics when i'm done. Its going to look so much better without all the bulky crap in there!

Thanks!
Phil

Has anyone with a weber had this problem with the jets not fitting snug in the e-tube? Am i able to bend the bottoms apart to make it more snug?

Can't help on the Weber, but I suggest getting a couple of 22mm freeze plugs for the coolant holes in the housings. Clean everything up and make sure there is no coolant in the pores of the aluminum. Mix up some J-B Weld, wipe the inside of the housing with it, set the plugs 1/8-3/16" below the face of the housing, then coat the mating edge with more J-B. No more pissing coolant when the intake comes off and no more chashing down o-rings.

On second thought on the jets and tubes, I'm not familiar with the Webers, if the jets screw into the top and bottom of the tubes like the Mikunis do, then no, they should not be loose. Tighten them up until you hear a tiny little screech, but do not strip the groove for the screw driver. The screech is caused by the 2 surfaces galling to each other, any more than that and things break.

(off topic) where in MN are you located? Im planning on upgrading the carb on my 85 in the next week or two, to either a Holley or weber.

It did feel pretty warm in the sun, but damn it got cold quick and our only warmth was sitting in my other car and letting it run till we were thawed and then got out and started up again. On the positive side, you can't feel it when you rip the skin off your hand on a stud but **** it hurts when it warms up!

Anyone have suggestions on the loose jets above?? I'm assuming that they shouldn't fall out with ease...

So today i got the rest of my stuff installed. The only problem we are having is that the Weber 48 IDA is not starting. We can get it started with ether, but after that it dies out. The only thing that is pumping gas in is the pump jets. We are unable to get it to idle at all. We tried changing the Idle mixture screw and made sure that there is enough pressure to the carb, and there is. So i have no idea what is going on. We are currently looking at the carb and all the jets to make sure they are ok. None of them are putting any fuel in the carb. HELP!

You might want to start another thread requesting help specifically for the weber carb. Otherwise, the people that know webers might not hear of your plight. Good luck!
