The General RE
When I had a 12A street port I got some more airflow out of a stock carb by running a spacer under it that joined the primaries together and joined the secondaries together at a point. I kept the joined primaries separate from the joined secondaries. The idea was if each rotor could be fed by all barrels of the cab instead of just two it would be getting double the cfm out of the carb. I also ported the manifold a bit. I needed to jet it a little bigger. I also liked it with the spring removed from under the vacuum secondary diaphram, better response. Vacuum started to build at ~7000rpm with this setup from what I recall. This was about 6-7years ago.

Um . . . need some help with my carb swap.
So, I got my rebuilt Nikki on. But, my car doesn't run.
It appears that the front primary (toward the front of the car) isn't getting fuel. Could my float be stuck? Could the problem be in the banjo bolt that holds the metal fuel line on?
I need to fix this quick. Any help?

Smog pump/Rat's nest deleted - BIG GAIN!!
I fixed my carb problems. Then, I had a problem in my clutch hydraulic circuit. So, I replaced the master & slave cylinders, and that fixed it.
Then, I removed the smog pump and rat's nest, using the tutorial in the archives. I've got some pictures I'll post soon.
Anyway, it's long been debated on this forum as to the benefits of removing your smog pump. Let me tell you, it helps BIGTIME!
Here are my old ETs:
Average: 16.63 @ 83.6
Best: 16.53 @ 84.6
New ETs:
Average: 16.29 @ 86.0
Best: 15.95 @ 88.8

Sounds like a good plan for the seven. This is just my opinion but with a car like yours I would restore it to factory conditions and leave everything intact. I don't know I love seeing cars on the verge of the grave yard getting a major face lift and overhaul but a car like yours I think should be restored for nostalgic sake.

Great work so far!!
I just got my exhaust yesterday, and let me tell you it does work, and very well. I used a cat since I cannot get away with yanking it yet. RB header, bonez cat, and a muffler I built myself in the garage. I have not timed it or anything, but seat of the pants is way improved. It feels uncorked so to speak. It went from barely chirping second sometimes, to always chirping, and short squeal depending on road surface. It's also noisier, but hey what's the fun of having more power if you can't sound like it? Next I'm going after the ignition. K&N filter tomorrow.
I also found that the car had many problems back when it was a daily driver. Misrouted ignition wires, bad vacuum line all over the place, ailing carb, etc....It is slowly becoming the machine it was meant to be.

The Project is GO!
My 12a blew the water seals and stopped running, permanently. But I've got a plan . . .
This is Ice Cold Katie, my 1985 RX-7 S. As you can see from the pictures, she's seen better days. I got this car into the high 15's before the engine started guzzling water, now my plan is for full restoration & 13's.

The plan starts with a 1986 13b. A local racecar builder had it as a spare. He said it had roughly 80K miles and had been freshened recently. I bought it for $200.

To scrape up some cash, I took the old Nikki off (the one I rebuilt myself) and listed it on eBay. I was hoping for $100, but only managed $88.
Fortunately, I'd already saved up about $2200.

Weight reduction won't gain any horsepower but it will quicken the car. It's good to see you revived the post from the dead. When you say restore and 13's, do you mean restore the car but be making 13 second quarter mile passes? That's technically what's called a Resto-Mod. A full restoration would be to take it back to factory. Looks good, can't wait to see what comes of it

Keep us posted.
I have a question on the G-tech though. I was looking into it a while ago and it said something about plugging into your OBDII port. So I just walked away and said forget it. So, you can use it on OBDI and before?

Regarding the G-Tech, all it plugs into is the cig lighter. There are a half-dozen different models available. Mine is the simplest. Picked it up on eBay for $40. I don't insist that it's completely accurate. But if it's at least consistant, it'll let me know if I'm doing something right.

As of today, Katie looks like this.
I pulled the carb & intake off the motor, and the Nikki carburetor's been sold. I packed the RB air cleaner away, will probably sell it too.
The front bumper was tweaked from a minor collision before I bought her. So, the front end had to come off to finally fix the damage. I'll use pieces from my parts car, plus some new parts.
