She did great today! Ran perfectly through 4 rounds of racing. I ran in CSP today. Ended up 2nd place but got beat by a pretty good running Miata.
Brakes worked good, tires seemed to do well, suspension did it's thing. Motor ran good, but was cutting out every now and then. I thrashed a stock carb together to make it run. Pulled strong, but every now and then it would bang out/cut out between 4000-5000 RPM. Funny thing is it would pull great to 7000+ RPM, and ran fine below 4000. I think I might be having a transition to the 4 bbl problem.
ANyhoo...I have a Sterling on order, so I am sure that will solve a bunch. I don't think it is an ignition problem, because it pulls great at 7000 RPM.
Round 1 I got a feel for what she was doing, round two I ran close to my best time, round 3 I DNF because I spun out and ran off course (I was pushing it a little hard) round 4 ran my best time.
My friend took some pictures, I will get them up as soon as possible. Sorry, no vids....maybe next time.
What was REALLY FUNNY...was how many 350 Z's, WRX's and other goodies this car with my newbie *** in were SMOKING!!! It really was fun.

Nicely done. I see what your body roll problem is though. Your tires are too sticky. The suspension isn't up to the tires ability. Time to raid the RE-Speed catalog. You'll kick even more *** when the Sterling comes in. Just invest in a Holley air bleed kit and you'll be on your way.

Also, yes, I was pleasantly suprised how well the Yokohama's held the ground.
Anyhow, once I get the engine totally sorted out, I will check into the RE speed stuff. Good thing is I can drop all the suspension goodies that are in this car in my 80 model. Will make for a tight driving street car!!

The Holley airbleed kit serves as both a fuel jet and main airbleed tuning kit. Basically you can tweak both the air and fuel to get the best out of your Sterling carb. The airbleeds fit in the stock fuel jet holes fine, although the thread pitch is ever so slightly different. The airbleeds go in the emulsion tubes that Sterling modifies. The bleeds are on page 88 of the Holley service parts catalog here- http://www.holley.com/data/Catalogs/...ce%20Parts.pdf. The full kit is Holley part#36-240. The full kit is expensive but you can probably sell half of it since you only need two of each size and the kit comes with four of each. Although I have half a kit, minus the .053's I gave Kentetsu, and 4 individual sizes that I lost when one of the cases went flying out of my hands. If your interested I'm looking for $100 for the half, although since I'm missing some we might be able to work something out. PM me if your interested. Go to the tuning section of www.sterlingmetalworks.com to figure out exactly how to tune the carb. I can give you some tips, or you can ask Sterling, since he's been tuning his carbs longer than I've even known about them.
How is your car in CSP when it is ITA club racing prepped? Well I am going off of your ITA decals placed on the RX-7 in your pictures. I would think that you would be in F Prepared class in autox. I could be wrong though.
Cars prepped to ITA and ITS Specs are classed in CSP. Cars prepped to ITB and ITC specs are classed in FSP.

curious if you ever got the measurements of the backspacing of the rims.
Also another thing to help you out with reducing body roll is taking out the battery from the engine bay and put it behind the passenger side seat to keep it more centered inbetween the wheels (thats a good chunk of 40lb or so)

Ok tech has been screwing me. Next time I autox I will let tech know the correct rule for my RX-7. Thanks for corrrecting me. Just read up on the rules per the SCCA book.
Cars listed as eligible in and prepared to the current national
Improved Touring rules are permitted to compete in their respective
Street Prepared classes. Neither Street Prepared nor Improved
Touring cars are permitted to interchange preparation rules.
Improved Touring cars may use tires which are eligible under
current IT rules even if they are not eligible in Street Prepared.
Oh yeah dj55b my backspacing is 4 inch on my wheels.

Paint it yourself. Do you have a house? Just get a gun, air compressor, and paint supplies. You can get everything you need for cheaper than Maaco would charge and do a better job. If you don't have a decent sized compressor, rent one from Home Depot for $25 a day. Paint gun and supplies including single stage silver paint can be found for a total of about $150.
It always cracks me up how much value people put on a gutted car. Two us at Solo II Nationals last year were running our IT cars. Of course we have gutted cars with cages. More than a couple of the CSP drivers were heard bitching.
If they read the rule book maybe they would understood that not only are IT cars legal for Street Prep they compete at a HUGE disadvantage. IT cars have to run IT spec wheels (ITA/ITS = 7" and ITC/ITB = 6") and stock induction systems. So IT cars are down on traction and HP in Street Prep.

We had so much fun!!! I just am ready to go race again!!.. My wife is still talking about how much fun she had!! Well hell...who can blame her!! She spent the whole day ring shotgun in CP cars....One was a national level driver running 10 seconds faster than the fastest CSP of the day!!!
