Looks awesome! Hopefully I'll be able to do something similiar since my intake is already off. What all did you do and in what order?

looking good! its all worth it when you pop the hood and people just drool
Mine has stayed shiny for over a year with no care other then a moist rag wipedown every once in awhile

time to work on the lower intake now
I'm going to remove the 6 port mounts and the emmisions crap off it. similar to the one I did for the 91 intake

Shame...

The NICE thing about the 13B 6port is the Low end torque grunt.

You car will run like a dog all day (99% of the time)except when full out drag racing (1% of the time), and even then you will only have at best 2-3% more flow.

Get the pineapple racing sleeves before you destroy another perfectly good intake and try them out.

Try wiring them open first, and driving around for a few days. If you already have them locked open, then get them to work properly, so you could feel the BIG difference in the low end.

Sorry, I am biased, and have done it both ways, and found the engine only "fools you" into thinking its faster because of the new peaky HP curve wiring open the actuators does. Mazda put them there for a reason.

I've got the pineapple sleeves
I've had working 6 ports before, and then I had to clean them to get them working properly.
I'm not really worried about power here or there.
I like a clean engine bay, I like to tinker.
When I buy a Jet Ski, I'll hook up my 6 ports for some low end grunt when towing the trailer

ok.

Let me know when you're shopping for a Jet Ski..

I am a Jet-Ski Freak (98 SD GTX-L (yes, a 3 seater!) @ 68mph - Radar verified) and have connections for good prices on new ones. I ride almost daily in my backyard (130 acre lake)

It's what I have been doing to fill the Need for Speed for the last 7 years without an RX-7

ok it's all done. BUT MY DAMN CAMERA DOESN'T WORK.

for ppl that want the procedure:
1. Buy three gaskets before you even bother starting it. these are lower-to-upper intake gasket, air supply valve-to-chamber gasket, chamber to upper intake gasket.

2. take the upper manifold and chamber off with throttle body connected to it. (it's easy to take them off, just watch out for the 7 or 8 vaccum hoses that are connected and also 2 coolant hoses)

3. take everything apart from the chamber. that would include throttle body, air supply valve, upper intake.

4. start with wire brush use following sand papers in order afterwards, 40, 80, 120, 220, 400, 600 and higher if you are crazy (this part took me god 15-20hours)

5. DON'T FORGET THAT DREMEL IS A MUST HAVE FOR THIS PROJECT TO GET INTO THE SMALL PLACES THAT IS HARD OR IMPOSSIBLE TO GET WITH SAND PAPER.

6. it would be a good idea to buy some kind of electric buffer/polisher for next step, they are fairly cheap and make your job really easier.

7. you need aluminum or metal polish and start polishing the parts like crazy for another 5-10 hours.

8 (optional). If you want to have your RE-EGI red as well like mine, use tape around the letters and use engine enamel paint and put six or seven light coats every 20mins. remember it's a good idea to do this when you are in the middle of sanding, so if you get some over spray, you can sand it off.

9. put everything back together like it was.

I hope this helps. i'm really tired now. Remember that this is a really time and strangth consuming. hahahahahah

abeomid - Where you thinkin about doing the throttlebody? it would turn out nice, but there are ALOT of nooks and crannies
also, I later painted the Steel parts of the TB since it won't polish

hey I polished my alternator and the top part of the housings and on the new engine I'll polish the aluminum housing in the 12A. If I keep the nikki I'll even polish the carb too. It's a lot of work but having a nice looking engine is worth it. It's just a lot of work!

abeomid GOOD JOB man!
