yea i just wanted to go into this tellin myself i was gona get stuff done and i was gona work my *** off..and even today i was askin my dad about workin for him right after school. and im not spoiled..i payed for this car without help...i talked the guy down to my price. but i wont have to pay for gas till i start drivin...this summer..and i only pay insurance every 6 months. and believe me i know its gona take a long time...its takin me a week to get someone to take me 2 miles to advanced auto parts to get a 5 dollar fuel filter and i still havnt gotin it.

and iv slighty changed my plans...i wanna get the 12a turbo..then get it to run nice and think about my mods then. but its hard to make the right decisions...like instead of savin up 1200 bucks..i could get 500 and get an exhaust.

oh and on another note...im takin back the "honda ricer ****" i got a new goal...cant be done..not with my money..but least its a goal...my brothers gettin a WRX STI on the last day of school...wounder if i can beat him??

Not to rag on the guy further, but can we get the title of this thread changed into something less offensive? We don't look good when the first thread on our board is 'beat all honda rice burning ****.'

Beat him in what? Acceleration with a stock 12AT? No
But your car will cost a lot cheaper! Get more SEAT TIME. Auto-x is easiest to get started. Track days give you more time for your money, but they also cost a lot more and cause more wear and tear on the car. Being a good driver is more important than any car mod. What use is a good car if the driver can't exploit it?

Edited for clarity

i agree everyone needs to lighten up but help out the guy as much as we can. We all have to start somtime and learn the ground rules as we go....if you would notice he hasn't misspelled that many words (if any) and hasn't really knocked any more ricers (using profoun words) i know i ragged on him a bit but just to break him into what this forum has to offer. i'm still a newbie as well and this is a long a$$ newbie thread, lol i think my first thread was like 7 posts. Sorry if any of you guys don't like my typing i don't use the shift key that much and i may mispell some words cause i'm in a hurry as well....just apoliagizing in advance. I think your on the right track now Rx7anator

Yes, it's an internet forum that is one of the most civil and well behaved forums that I've seen. This place is really a credit to the rx7club and we should try to keep it that way.

rx7anator - First off welcome to the board. I changed the title. We like to pretend we have some class here.

I'm glad your listening to the members input. Your 250hp goal is realistic and you dont need twin turbos to get it. Oh and BTW Im no turbo guy, but all the really fast Turbo cars run one big turbo to make big power. More efficiency with the big single I guess. At 250 you can still run the stock trans and driveline. And it'll be damn fast. My suggestion is that you continue to research on the subject and ask questions.

I think you should try autox, once you get the car running and you get your license of course. When I was 16 I went to watch my first autox race with my best friend, instantly I was hooked. Once you ride as a passenger during an autocross, you will be hooked too. It is such a rush. If you visit an event, you will probably change you mind and want to do the mods to race in a certain class. On the course you will be suprised at how good your car handles and brakes. My dad was suprised when he was a passenger in my se.

What everyone is saying about Drive time I totally agree with..
Honestly, I wouldn't even worry about the 12AT..

If i were in your shoes (and i have been) I would do the following...

First off:
Check on emissions laws for you car in your state... if there aren't any:

Remove and throw into the woods the following items:
Air pump,
Air Control Valve (buy a RB cover)
Rats Nest,
Air Conditioning (if equipped)
Power Steering (if equipped)
Rear sway bar.

***** Ebay for:
Used RB header ( I buy spares just to have them)
A magnacore Muffler,
A Supertrapp Muffler
Take the car to a GOOD local muffler shop and have them bend some 2.5" through those components for you. Cost should be $100-$150 at the most.

Next:
Continue whoring up Ebay for:
Used Side Draft Mikuni or Weber set up (again I by spares... even buy up components to assemble kits as needed, or just to experiement)
LOW pressure fuel pressure regulator
Facet Fuel pump,
Higher flow fuel pump.

That should be all you need as far as power steps for a while.

Next looking to the suspension, consider new springs, or atleast new shocks, bu now i'm sure you need some.
tighten the front Sway bar on the stock end links (to the same torque on both sides) or buy a New one.

Check brakes to make sure they are safe, If the rotors are good, simply replace the brake compound, rubber brake lines, and fluid.

If down the road you want a turbo, I am sure you could get in contact with Rotaryshack, and have them make you adaptor parts. The sidedraft is essentially turbo ready, just get from rotaryshack
Turbo
turbo manifold
boost box for carb

Stock 12's can take plenty of boost (6-8 psi)

If additional fuel is needed, goto a larger sidedraft carb,
like from a 40 to a 45... or get an AIC from Greddy or the like.

Please feel free to ask any questions you have. I wish i was in your shoes at your age.. you have literally hundreds of slight older people who have been there, done that, and all this added experience can save you TONS of money experimenting for yourself.

The hot start assist and sub zero system can go. Look in the faq for the emissions removal tutorial.

No problem with dreaming I suppose. Heck, you may eventually make it come true.

Doing little upgrades when everthing is in working order is probably the best bet for now though. If you are going to have to drive this car on a daily basis, you'll be much happier if you modify the car slowly. When you do everything at once, it will take 3x as long as you think, and cost 2x as much. Believe me big mods always take more money and more time than you anticipate.

If you do eventually have the money to go turbo, keep it simple at first, and the boost moderate (6-8 psi). I know that $270 isn't bad, but if you are only able to do that for the summer you'll earn only around $4600, and that has to pay for you driving it until the next summer in addition to all the other stuff (ya know, like life, etc. ). Even if you parents do take good care of you, and you have few expenses, it will take you at least two summers to come up with enough to do a good job of turboing your car. As far as you budget is conserned:
$2k is the low side using alot of used parts, no IC, and little else more than the bare bones.
$4k is a descent budget if you can keep things simple
I've spent upwords of $6-7k, and mines not that wild. The extras are what drive up the price quick.

Anyway good luck, you'll need it .

I wish you all of the best rx7anator.

As long as you get your point through, it's ok with me.

I have a handfull of extra turbos and manifolds if you are interested.

Hey,

I hope you beat all of those "#*%^ Ricer #$#!" too!

Can I say that? I hope so. I'm new here and I don't want to **** anyone off.

20b?? REW?? Sparco seats???!!!! I would worry about getting your car a little more up to par. You said your car is a daily driver,,, you don't start a 20b swap on a daily driver......and no offense but I seriously doubt you understand the scope of such a project. Like others have stated, you are thinking way too big for your wallet or knowledge of RX7's and rotaries in general. I'm not downing your ideas but just trying to give you a little more perspective. I have had my GSL-SE for a year now and I am just now getting everything taken care of to start the swap........Don't start modifying the engine first. Brakes and suspension are way more important!!! You just can't put 250hp in a totally stock FB.....its unsafe!!. You will find that your car isn't everything but a fun hobby.

Edit: Oh ya, and if I was still in High school I would be worrying more about my grades then a totally replacable piece of metal.

Good luck

A 20B or 13BT is a big project, and requires a big budget. Start smaller. I know you want this stuff, but you gotta be more realistic.

Sounds like you should do a coolant flush and change. Gas slosh? You can hear the fuel in the tank sloshing? Is your interior stuff installed?

Oh and I deleted Cody's post, and your response. Play nice guys.

what covers the hatch area of a stock rx7? mine had two pieces of ply wood covered with carpet. and i completely understand the money its gona take and im actually building more of a race car. im prolly only gona run 1/4 miles every now and then but i figured the car will have greater resale value if its race ready (simi)- and i make A's and take advanced classes. in school so thats no problem..which my parents agreed if i have a job then my senior year they will throw down a down payment on an rx8(if thats wut i decided to go with ..if its still tight that year). and not being a dick to all of yall who are giving me the good advice...im head headed and im GOING to do an engine swap. and i know i iwll after the summer cuz im gettin 7.50 an hour which is $435 a week. iv been talkin around and found a guy from texas that just moved here whose done the 20b swap which = free help. the only thing is the 20b is heavier right? i have no power steering...this a problem?

ok im done jabberin a bout that crap--with the new fuel pump i was hittin 50 in 2nd instead of 3rd..but still boggin a little int he begining of 3rd...also got the weather stripping and the **** doesnt fit..u think for 60 bucks they would make it fit. and and on a even better note...need new clutch slave. but oh well ill have it payed off soon and start fixing all the little stuff. well thats all for tonight..lata

How did the Honda's (mainly civics I guess) In the USA start being called Ricers.....??
It is here that we find a new type of rice. In the 70's and 80's most import automobiles from Asia were considered Rice, although now it was no longer an important part of the noon-day feast. No, now it was a car, that was called by this nickname because of the vehicle's roots in Asia where the palpable food is so common. At this time it was carried with it strong undertones of racism and hate because the sales of these vehicles funneled money out of the country and consequently affected "The American Working Man." To note, another lovely name for such vehicles was "Rice Burner."
