Project $5000 '79 SA

This is the SA I picked up last weekend, I just got off my **** to post picks. She has some cancer but I don't believe it's terminal. The wheels are Borbet, 14x6. The interior is almost great, just one rip it the head liner, not to bad, and a cracked dash (which I pulled tonight).

The idea of this project is to have a nice DD for a 5K budget by spring. Right now I'm stripping it down to be sure she's solid. I found a few small holes in the driver side floor where beam is that you mount the front of the seat to. Also they're hole on the sides of the cowl that I'm going to have to grind out and replace. All small stuff that I think will be good to learn how to weld on.

This has a JDM 12a in it. I can't imagen why the PO went threw the trouble of getting the engine from Japan (I have the paper work so it's not BS) due to it being a 4 port.

you got yourself a looker there. with $5,000 you should have a nice ride.
If I hade $5k I could make my car exactly how i want it, probably even the turbo.

Let us see when its done.

forgot to mention, though you may have guessed by the wheels, it has an -SE suspension already on it. I couldn't believe it, the PO didn't know anything about the car (mostly a 3rd gen guy that got the car as payment for some work) so when I was looking it over and saw vented disk in the rear, I said SOLD in my head. If this as a stock SA I had a set of FB struts to put in it from my other car to give it the better front pads. So I guess I'm going to have to have a garage sell soon.

What do you guys think about an SR20DET swap? I'd love to put an eco-tech in it, though I think the newness of the RWD versions will be out of budget.

the project is ON!! Just won a drive train off ebay. I'm keeping the particulars of the project black for now. Just wanted to say it's going to be a busy fall.

I guess it depends on how you look at it. Yes I'm trying another piston swap, but the car was out back of a shop rotting, so I think I saved it. I'm going to try and do this with no hacking as to be able to put it back rotory if the mood strikes me. My other 7, there was no cutting of the car involved. And that one was out back of a shop rotting too, so at least I'm getting 7's back on the road.

Anybody who has a problem swapping engines is an idiot. How do you guys think all this car modding stuff began? By guys who started swapping engines and drivetrains. Flathead V-8s, big block Chevy's, Jaguar rear-ends, etc, etc... You think anyone ever gave other hot rodders grief that they chose a different motor? Hell, sometimes they through in a new engine just so they could drive the damn thing.

Enough with the "poor car, no rotary" crap. I say go for it. Hell, get a Subaru WRX STi drivetrain and throw that in there. The more ideas, and the more people that keep modding these cars, the better.

the 12a I'm trying to get rid of with the 5speed. PM me.

On the Subaru STi drive tran... I have a legacy GT, the engine deminsions are the same, it's basicly the same engine, but it's to wide to go in the frame rails of the 7. Yes, that was what I really wanted in there, aluminum, compact, and low to the ground... I think it would be better for the 7 than the rotary. Thanks for the backup t2

I had somebody tell me that he wouldn't sell me his FC because I was going to do an LS1/T56 swap. Dumbasses.
