problems after starter change.

so just the other day my starter kicked the bucket and decided to die.

took er down to the shop and she was shot.

got a new one just today and installed it all good and whatnot.

then we go to turn the ignition and guess what. NOTHING HAPPENS.

when you turn the key to accesorie, you hear a clicking noise. which is the solenoid kicking in. then when you go to ignite. all you can hear is the starter powering up and spinning but no cranking.

so we took it all back out and took it down to the shop for testing, just in case. everything was good there.

so brought it home and reinstalled it. then looked at the solenoid connecter and noticed it was a bit corroded but because of lack of space i couldnt do much to clean it, so i just gave it a bit of a scrape down the middle so some clean metal was showing again.

and finished up the installation then went to ignite, and there was a large popping noise and a puff of smoke coming from the postive post of the battery. then there was absolutely no power anywhere in the car except the digital clock in the middle.

and now im too scared to try anything else. can anyone help?

You blew the fusible link, on the driver's side inner fender the three little wires are fuses, probly replace the center one and if you wire it the right way she'll be good to go.

Get the replacement plastic fuses, do a search, they are cheap at any parts store.

well honestly there is only one way to hook it up. and i hooked it up right.

and the fuse didnt blow because its all still solid. cause the cloth would burn away right?

and now the power is back again.

Either you wired it backwards as suggested, or your connections are very dirty/corroded...

yeah. i think its pretty brutal in that thing. so im gonna give it a good clean and try it again.

CAUSE SERIOUSLY. how can you wire it wrong? the wire only goes so far. and the nut only comes off of one side. only a poor soul could possibly mess that up.
