Problem, and random questions

First off i have 1 major problem. Wheni start my car, itl rev itself up ti like 2.3 grand , then drop to about 1 thousand and idle nicely, or when i start it itl rev to about 2 grand drop to about 400 almost stall, recover and idle nicely at about 800 rpm. Or itl rev up to about 1.5 grand, drop to about 1.2 and then to 800, then back to 1.2 then nback to 800 over and over. What would u say normal idle is and how can i get mine to idle better. I have a 84 GSL-SE fuel injected.

My ownly random question is, well have any of you ever placed in a car show. I was considering redoing my entire car and starting to show it, but i want to see if i even stand a chance.

the anti-afterburn hose under the carb messes with idle... and is known to sorta melt from the manifold heat inches below
