Exclamation problem with brake lines

just installed my new calipers and SS lines..but the lines do not want to go into the caliper....i even tryed on the old calipers (thinking the new calipers were threaded wrong) and i only can get about half of a turn in and then its hard, i have got about half of the line threaded in but any further would be impossible..i bought these from mazdatrix.com several months ago but just got around to putting them on...

is there a chance they gave me the SE- brake lines?? or is there no different??

(i have GS but ordered the GSL lines because i was doing the rear swap...but there shouldnt be a differance in the front brakes for the gsl and gs....

I'll be watching this thread as I have my S.S. lines from Summit and I am preparing for the same exact swap: '83 GSL rear axle in to an '81 GS. It's just been too hot for me to get real motivated to get out there and turn alot of wrenches.

That sucks man. the GSL and -SE lines should be the same any way. The Series one lines are different though, maybe they gave you those?? My SS lines went on with no issue what so ever, I believe I got mine fromt the Rx-7 store. Is this your DD?

Sounds like you either cross threaded them by accident, or they were the wrong thread pitch. If they were tough to thread in after only a half turn, you shouldn't have even bothered trying to thread them in the rest of the way. The only other option would have been that the threads were tapered, which is common on some things, but after you said the threads were messed up after taking it out, that was out of the question.

figured it out.........

ok this is what happened so... the new calipers i got from rockauto came with adapter peice that was already inserted into the caliper where the line goes with a cap over it.. so i took the cap off and had trouble puting the line into there......well since my SS lines where then garbage i put my stock lines on....turned out my stock lines did the same thing..that wouldnt thread into the caliper..well wtf....

sat there thinking wtf.......so i took the adapter off that was already on the brake caliper and then put my stock rubber line back into the caliper and WOW it threaded in like it should have.........

the adapter that rockauto put in the caliper must be wrong and changed the thread patteren for the lines but once taking that off the lines went in great........
JUST ONE BIG THING........im having to use my rubber lines since my SS ones are trash....well thats not good..
Do you think there is anyway mazdatrix will under stand my problem and help my out by just replacing that peice that threads into the caliper part??? or give me just the front two lines?????

I don't know if they would do anything. But if there wasn't anything saying that there was an adapter included with the caliper already installed, then I would go to the place you got the calipers and complain about the lack of instructions. You might be able to get them to replace the lines for you, but its not likley either company is going to help you out. Your pretty much screwed.

That adapter was likely there to make the calipers compatible with the 79 and 80 rx-7's. They had a different thread pitch on the brake lines.
