The only pro I can think of is if you live where emissions isn't a concern and you are having lots of problems with vacuum leaks.

Other than that, usually you introduce all sorts of new problems....

I don't know Peejay.... removing that 1-2 pounds of plastic must give you at least another 15 HP, not to mention the 50+HP that comes from removing the vaccum stuff and eliminating all the turbulance in the intake manifold..

Pros: Less weight (remove the rats nest plus the air pump, plus ACV, cleaner engine compartment. More HP after removing the cat (not needed)

Cons: Crappy gas mileage, smelly exhaust, more possibility of vacuum leaks and possible condensation in the oil filler tube.

if it's working, leave it alone.
if it isn't working, take it off.

simple as that... it can cause a lot of problems (just ask me how I know), and doesn't really have any significant impact on the car's performance. The main reason I took mine off is because the wiring harness from my '79 didn't fit any of the emmisions control for my '83 engine. Took it all off, capped everything, and it works... only problem now is that she doesn't like starting when she's hot.
