I would give a car as nice as he has described, a serious look at for around $5000 to $6500Us.
The Se's are extremley hard to find, not to mention nice ones.

$3K is an insult based on what this guy has just described (which to many of us would be one of the nicest SE around, period)

Mine has 55k miles and in about the same shape as he has described. First off, I wouldn't sell it but for sake of debate, I wouldn't sell it for anything less than 10K and I've already been offered that. I think it depends on where you are - up here, nice ones are very hard to come buy.
Christ, 5+ year old civics with more miles are going for more that that!!
If your car is for sale, don't give it away because you're in a hurry for a bike. Then again, if you want to sell it for less than it's worth, you'll make someone very happy
Got any pic's???

The '68 Camaro thing doesn't work that well... you gotta take into consideration the numbers that are out there, the demand (Baby boomers want their 60's cars), and the age factor.

80's cars in general aren't worth that much right now. In 10-20 years they might be though, just as 60's muscle cars are in high demand right now. The people that grew up in the era of the car want one when they retire and have shitloads of money to blow. So for now, RX-7's aren't going to be worth anywhere near as much as 64 1/2 Mustangs or 68 Camaros, etc...

The rotary engine will most likely make the RX-7 somewhat higher valued in the future.

I have to disagree. I'm 44 years old and in my prime earning years - the RX7 was a car I admired in my early to mid 20's. Now I want one and I bought one. Your point has a lot of merit but keep in mind the clock is ticking and the '80's cars are now becoming sought after by the next generation "Boomer" and they are not waiting until they retire. The boomer reference has been talked about for many years - this age group is aging like the restof us! There's another group right behind them and they are making up a large percentage of the new potential sports car market (IMO)!!

As a fellow low mile SE owner (84 with 87K - Hey, that's still only 4500 miles a year ) I wouldn't sell your car for less than $5K if truely is in mint condition.

To me it doesn't matter so much what it cost new or how much a well-used non-SE will sell for. There are only so many mint, original SE's left, folks. It's going to get to the point where you won't be able to buy one at any price...

Here I go beating a very dead horse, like it or not the people on this list ARE the Enthuisets(sp) and as owners we know the merits and flaws of most all Rex's not all of us are Rich but I think that 3-5k is more than reasonable for our dream cars. Face it Folks Stock First gens are SLOW se or not se. they are some what odd as far as engine's go and the style isn't for every one. My car has 45k on the clock Runs like a top and is mostly clean and I know I couldn't get 1k for it. If the guy wanted to realy maximise what he got for the car it would take a fairly long time, If he wants to have a bike this summer he should take the highest offer from this list. 10k+ equals total sucker or some one with money to burn. it's just nuts, you could take any average se and use the rest of the cash to build a car that really rocked.

The point is that right now, depending on the local, the price could be vastly different. I know up in Canada and northern states, that there are fewer sports cars, due to weather\winter factors. Northern 7, up in Winnipeg, I doubt there are many SE's period, and the few that are up there are mostly victim to rust, due to the weather. I bet up there a truely mint SE would be worth what you say.

Now here in Utah there aren't many performance cars, but there aren't that many people interested in them either. I don't know why, but most of those at all interested in performance around here are more interested in domestic muscle, rather than imported finesse. That and it's dry here so cars 'can' last longer, and if you really want a rust free 'mint' car, Arizona and Nevada are within reasonable driving distance. I have never seen any 1st Gen here being offered at more than 2k, (I haven't seen too many offered period, but that is beside the point) none of which I would consider mint, but still. Most of the ones above 1.5k around here just sit until the price drops, unless its just immaculate. A truely mint one, I doubt would sell for more than 4k here, and that would be after sitting on it for months.

So anyway, to the poster of this thread:

If you want to really get out of it what its worth, post it high for your area, and be prepared to sit for the right buyer.

I am in the Dallas area in texas and the guys at rotory performance are always busy with rebuilding these cars, and even turning away customers due to not being able to keep up with the demand. Point is the engines run from 3k up tp 4k depending on what you want done and since he always is back up with business just to have the motors rebuilt, I think a peson would by a hole car for as much if not more than the 3 - 4k us.

Drive an SE for a while - the 35 extra hp and flat torque band make it a significantly different car than your GS.

So 80s cars aren't worth much, huh? Then explain this:

--and seven days to go on this non-se rex, and it is already at $2700. Hmm. It may even be just a GS with leather seats since power windows are't mentioned.

Yeah, the people here who are giving you low numbers (below $4,000) just dont want to see you sell your car for more than they bought theirs for.

I bought mine for $3,000, with 120,000, (it blew 7k miles later), in immaculate condition, nearly perfect interior, stock paint, in perfect condition, with custom 16" rims on it for $3,000, i got a SCREAMING deal (even w/o the engine, i would still be asking $3,000 if i were to sell it).

If i were you, i wouldnt sell it for anything less thatn $5,000, but dont rush, i'm sure you can find more like $6,500 to $7,000.

To let all of you "MAYBE 2,500 for it" peopl know alittle something: My black 12a w/ stock rims, i was asking $2500 for it. I talked to a BUNCH of people about it, their response:

"WOW why are you selling it so LOW?!?! i would expect to pay about $5-6k for that car as it sits right now!!!"

(they had taken a test ride in it, seen everything about the car, and looked under the hood).

You guys seem to forget that this car is just as much a sports car as any other car, more so even than most. Why pay less for it then just cause most of them are junk? There are some people who do take care of their cars?

Why? So they can get 50% of what they paid for it, if they ever sell it...

~Geoff

P.S, see my gsl-se in my avatar and sig:
P.S.S, If i had a running engine in my car, i wouldn't sell it for anything less than $7,000, and i probably wouldnt even sell it then.

Yeah, but keep in mind how much a 68 Camaro would be worth in that condition

Do I hear $35,000+ US?

yeah, those Celica Supras (they weren't just called Supras back then) aren't worth a whole lot.... my friend has one, it has the inline-6 in it. It's alright, but it doesn't have near as much power as you should expect outta a 6-cylinder with FI... and it's heavy...

But all you guys can keep dreaming that your '80s cars are worth a lot of money

Heck, even the Ferraris from the 80s aren't worth all that much...

Yeah, but how much mary J was in the back when they appraised it? And did it have some of those solid gold rims?

Seriously- how exactly did you get it appraised that high? Is this a highly modded racecar or a stock SE?

And the reason I like linking items on ebay for pricing: ebay is supposed to be wholesale prices. That means below market value. Somebody was ready, money in hand (or at least available), to pay these prices for these vehicles on short notice. If that 80 rex went for $4100 on ebay, its retail value should be even higher.

- mint condition (so mint it's still running strong on the original battery!)

- All chassis #'s match

- All mods reversible (RB exhaust system, swaybar, rims, pulley, etc) with original parts safely in storage so she can revert to showroom stock, with the exception of the stock stereo - I sold that on eBay.

- Both roofs and valise

- Repair and maintainance receipts going back to the day she left the showroom. Oil changed religeously every 5,000 kms, etc.

- Restored - new paint, weather stripping, pinstriping, headlight washers/rubber, rebuilt transmission (in original housing), door panels, etc.

- Formerly owned by a celebrity - while that didn't affect the appraisal much, it made my insurance co. take the value seriously.

Thumbs up UPDATE

Been busy didn't know there would be so many comments on this. Jusy got back to read them. Some of you are just funny!!!
It was home coming in my town this weekend. So I pulled the car out, hit it with the hose and set it my folks yard. (Mayne Street, yes thats how they spell main in our town.)

Was there for 10 hours maybe. They did not offer me my price, but two offered $6,000. One even more, but he was going to give it to his gril to drive every day. Would not sell it to them for $10,000. OK Iwould.

I will find a digital camera and get some pics.
Someone asked color. I will look at sticker, but Tender Blue comes to mind.

I may toss it on EBay and see what comes up.
(When I have time.)
