Question Price Tag?

Just found you guys. Learned a lot all ready.

I have a 85 RX-7 GSL-SE with 41,150 miles. I was first and only owner. The GSL-SE has all the bells on it as you know.

Al wheels, air, speed control, moon roof. Car is stock showroom new. Drove in snow (1/2 Inch) one day after I drove my truck off a cliff in WI. (That's another story.)
Stored inside and parked normally in winter. Even when I take it to work a few times in the summer its is in a garage while I'm at work. Planned on keeping it for years. (THink it would be worth a lot in the years to come.
I just don't fit in it anymore and ride a bike all the time. Want to get new bike wife said neww bike car goes.
But never drive it anyway.
Just looked and even have the window sticker still. New price on sticker $15,590.

What do you all out there think it may be worth?
(Sorry so long.)
Thanks, T-Boy

No more than $350 Canadian. But I'm feeling generous today so I'll give you $400 US plus playoff tickets for the Red Wings!

For a car that well treated with low miles like that, I think the offer of 400 was an insult!

for a GSL-SE in good condition, probably 2g.. for one as good as you say yours is... maybe 3g. Keep in mind all prices of mine are Canadian W00t

Mr7 is trying to rip you off, like a good Canadian. (just kidding)

I have a GSL-SE in great condition and bought it for about $2000, American. Got any pics? That'd help, plus I'm interested in everyone elses GSL-SE's.

35,000 is way too much, that was the price tag 18 years ago when these things were getting backordered because everyone wanted one. The average price that I found is $2400, for good condition.

Extremely nice SE's are getting harder and harder to come by nowadays. I have own 2 of them already. . In terms of dollar value, a perfect 10 GSL-SE would be about $3500 here in So Cal. This is still 30% of its original value. I'd say keep the car and enjoy it. I have an '02 as a beater, but I'd drive the 84 everyday if it was Turbo'ed.

I agree, forget what it's worth, keep the car, or if worst comes to worst, sell it to one of "us".

You guys have no idea do you. Does anyone who posted that actually own a NICE se? Like crap, the blue book value on them is only about $2500, but theyre worth way more than that, especially with mileage that low. Do NOT listen to any of their opinions, that car is worth 6-7k US if it's perfect in my opinion, and there are people who will pay it, just don't sell it to a jerk, or a cheapskate (like some people on here). You will get what you want for the car, not what someone "thinks" its worth to them. 2k for a car with 41k miles on it? **** off, smarten up.

Yes I'm having a bad day, but there's no need to insult the guy, jesus.

Edit - Oh by the way, flame away fellahs...

Dude, it's not worth 7K US... that's like 10-11K Canadian... I could buy a pretty damn nice vehicle for 10K Candian.... I sure as hell wouldn't pay that for a 19 year old RX-7... no matter what kind of shape it's in.

80's cars aren't collecibles in any way... especially nor ones that are believed bythe general public to be unreliable.

If its truely mint, I'm sure you could get at least $3500, but highly doubt you would get any more than $5000. I'm mean face it, it is a 18 yr old car that was worth 16k new. Most people agree that a car usually depreciates half of its value every 4 years, up to a point of course. Still after 18 years by that reasoning a car would be worth about 1/8th its original value (or about 2k, which is how much I would pay for a 18 yr old car that has been driven 7-10k mi a year).
$6k-7k US, thats practically half its original value. With 41k and if it was '96 not '03, I'd consider 6k-7k more reasonable. But even if you don't drive it, things get older, and newer cars keep getting better. Only when it becomes old enough and rare enough will it appreciate. Of course maybe its rare enough in your area already.

What color is the paint and the int? Some rare colors such as maroon or ocean blue is more desirable. I personally am willing to pay up to $5000 for a mint GSL-SE.

I REPEAT: FIND THE RIGHT BUYER!

I routinely get offered between $5000 and $6000 for my '85 SE, and it has 100,000 miles on it. I've seen inferior ones w/more miles on them fetch more than that on ebay!

Don't forget the huge price gouging by some dealers when this model was new, and hard to get in places like my State... My paperwork from the original sale was for $17,900!! But I guess it did come w/leather, power steering, both roofs, a ski rack (never used), and a bra

Many older gents that maybe used to have, or couldn't afford, a new one then would certainly pay top dollar for a mint piece of nostalgia like yours.

Don't presume there isn't an *** for your seat if you decide to sell. Of course, it's a lot harder work to find a true enthusiast that will pay a premium, (much harder than posting on this forum, anyway...) but you can always lower your price if you have to. You can start at whatever you want, then adjust accordingly.

BTW, I hope you decide to keep it. In the wrong hands it could be turned into junk pretty quickly too...

I paid $4,000 CDN for Pamela a little over a year ago. At the time she was in about the condition described by the chap above.

I thought - and still think - that I got a good deal.

Whoops, I accidentally typed US, I meant to put CDN. Most of the stuff you find on here is in US and I'm used to just punching that in. 6-7k CDN is what I meant, and 6 or 7k is what I would expect for my car.

Sorry for the rant, I've cooled down now.

Put it on ebay and set the reserve at what you would think is a reasonable price for the car. Its not often you see a RX-7 go through ebay and not sell if its in that good condition.

I paid 3500 for mine, and it was beautiful, but a ton more miles (115k) and I still feel it was worth every penny...

2-3k? you people are nuts. 5k is reasonable, but with the right buyer it could be even more...

Wait a minute. It's the people that BUY the car that set the price. All that we can do, is make sure he doesn't underbid himself.

Seems like if he really wants a bike for the summer, the price will come down. But if he just takes his time the price will go up. It all depends on the interest he can generate for the car.

So is T-Boy selling or not?

I picked up my 84 GSL, with under 41,000 miles, this bodykit, Autoplas louvers, and some chrome fender trim (since removed) for $3000.

If your SE is tip-top, everything functional, runs great......slap a price tag of $5,000 US on it. Someone will probably offer you $3500-4000. Sell at the price you like.

Ebay is a good way to get the word out about the car, and maybe you will find the proper enthusiasts, who will drop good money for your car.

If we go by his thinking I could buy a 68 camero for about 1000 in good shape too. I would pay 5000 for it as long as it did not have that maroon interior in it. what wrong with having an 18 year old car mines 20 and drives great, I have replace every major part in the last 12 years on the car and have lifetime warrenties on almost every part I have gotten. I love this car, it is so easy to work on, try buying a car that looks good, fun to drive, and you can working on without having a degree from MIT.

There is a big difference between a 10-20 foot car, and a car that is actually close to a mint one owner always garaged low miles car. Most on this board have 10-20 foot cars- they look great from a few feet away, but get close and you see all the dents, scratches, rust spot, etc. These cars also look great in digital pictures. An SE that actually looks and runs great with no need for bodywork or mechanical attention or interior work is worth between 2-3k$ (us). Now, add in very low miles one owner all documented always garaged showroom new (on the top of the line model of a classic sports car that is getting very hard to find unmolested) and the value becomes more cloudy. Find somebody who really wanted one back in the late 70s/ early 80s but couldnt (or had one and wants one again), but now has extra cash, and they might pay over 5k$ for it easy. Isn't that what sets classic car values: The people with extra cash who are trying to buy what they wanted when they were young, but couldn't have- or just have something that reminds them of being young again? THAT is why '57 Chevys bacame popular when early baby boomers became empty nesters, that is why 60s muscle became popular when late boomers became empty nesters, and this is why 70s cars (the very few that are fun) are starting to become popular because those that went through high school in the early 70s now have extra cash (after their kids are through college and actually have jobs) and they want to buy that car they wanted in school- AND THIS WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE SA/FB IS 'A CLASSIC' AND STARTS GAINING IN VALUE when late 70s/ early 80's graduates with cash want to relive their youth or just have that car they always wanted (like me- I graduated in '88 and ALWAYS wanted a 1st gen rex.). If you don't like the car, then sell it. Cars are never good 'investments' compared to real estate, but if you do like the car and keep it another ten years, it will deffinitely be worth MUCH more.

Insurance company will pay $4500 for a totaled. low mile '80 that had great paint and perfect interior prior to accident and you know they always pay to the low side if they can...

The $2000 to $3000 crowd just wants to see you not get any more than they paid, but that's not what the market will bear right now...
